USC: What Did We Learn

He isn't quick enough. He is not a straight line runner. Too herky jerky on some runs. When he puts his foot down and runs, he is a great runner, but sometimes to much side ways movement.
As a Cowboys fan growing up in the 90s, EJ reminds me a lot of Emmitt Smith who was not super fast but had tremendous vision, could find the gaps, and always fought for extra yards. EJ is special.

I truly don't think Dylan's injury was going to stop USC from winning. USC made adjustments after the first drive, and we didn't. They ran the ball, and we couldn't get that momentum back. Our WR were no shows. USC never really blitzed the whole game accept for when Dylan got injured. They kept the ball in front of them, and didn't allow us to get downfield.

Just wondering when the football Gods will let us have one win against a ranked opponent. Our only remaining chance this year is if Iowa gets ranked before we play them.
Interestingly, neither USC nor Michigan are world beaters and we played them hard and had chances to beat them. The frustrating thing is that we keep losing in these games. Is it mental? I am very confused as it feels like we have the talent to hang with good teams but then we lose to a not so good Minnesota team. Very hard to gauge where we are as a team. It would be really nice if we can pull three wins in November.

Maybe, but the turnover and injury was his fault for holding the ball too long. We were in scoring position there. Rhule also coward out by not going for it on 4th and 1 later and wasting 2 timeouts. It changed the whole momentum of the game.
Rewatch the play, there was a blitz coming off the edge & Corcoran being driven into him. Until we start holding our own in the trenches on both sides of the ball, its tough to win.

Since the game has changed in the last two season with NIL, we need to use it to get more talent. When I see Texas Tech spending 25 million$$$ on a roster, I just scratch my head. I keep hearing we have the funds, but I am not seeing the players. So do we have the funds? If we do, why are we not buying the right players? It takes $20-30 million to have a winning lineup. Ohio St proved that last season. If a poll was taken I bet we would learn that the 12 playoff teams have spent $10's of millions on roster building. Facts of doing business in 2025. Spend the money

Oh dude…I agree with this. Totally agree about the timeout.

I understand the point you’re driving at. But also, what the f*** does YPC wind up really meaning to the outcome if they only put up 21 points?

Remember, we forced two field goals and they went for two on one touchdown. They got into the end zone only two times.

I do think we lack an inside linebacker prescience though. That wasn’t good.
It led to a game winning drive. We lost the game because we couldn’t stop the run.

I know what comprises a pass defense. You can keep the guardrails really tight to protect a narrative.

We're undefeated after 1st quarters against USC this year.

How is this elite secondary yielding effectiveness in overall defense and winning huge games?

I had USC by 14-17 tonight so not too displeased as the L sits for some time now.
I really don't think you do. We held the number 1 passing offense who averages 326 yards a game to 135 yards through the air, a 39% completion percent, 1 interception, and 3 sacks. How is that not elite????

Not to mention those fuckers got away with a couple OPIs and 29 of those yards were on one tick play, and another 43 on one deep ball. Our corners were on and island all night to drop safeties in to shore up the run and they performed almost flawlessly.

New radio guy sucks. Uses 40 words to describe a play with the enthusiasm of long td drive only to find out much later that's it's now 3rd and 3

I learned that whenever I am sad after a loss, all I need to do is look at some stats and I immediately start feeling better about our progress.
Yes as disappointed as I am it is easy to see we are better than last year. Too early to say how much better until we end the season

Facts are until we get a younger coach with salesman instincts, who can coach, who can be a talent identifier, were a lesser Iowa. Iowa wins 8 games most years, we have not had the in a few years. Sure, I think building programs with 4 year talent is still a part of this process, but no one is loyal. Bring in difference makers on both sides of the ball. Most every other program is doing this currently. This is on the program as a whole. We don't have speed on the outside, and road graders on the inside.
