Husker QB - TJ Lateef

admo

Heisman Trophy Winner

Deserves his own thread.

With offers from Georgia, Ole Miss (Kiffin), Miami, FSU and others, he is very talented.

Not the ideal situation as a true Freshmen QB, but the next 3 games are all yours kid. 2 road games and Iowa.

It's your offense. Do your best and play ball the way you can. You will be fine! You got this.

The whole staff and players (team) need to embrace TJ, support him, and help him out. He has a tough job to do.

2 iconic places (Rose Bowl, 8pm on Fox) and at Happy Valley (PSU).

Then Friday after Thanksgiving, against a rival (Iowa).

Don't expect him to be DR or expect him to have to win games himself. But, the team needs to get behind him and help him each day, each game.

I am excited for his opportunity, but I will miss DR a lot, if that makes sense.

I think a mobile QB can help negate poor OL play. I reckon a heavier does of EJ. Little to know film on him. Opportunity to actually have a triple option built into the RPO (keep/EJ/Pass)... Maybe let him roll out more (wish they'd done that with DR). He's got the keys now. Maybe the team rallies from this and we see a game we haven't seen yet.

I thought he played well enough for being thrust into a massive moment in prime time. He's still extremely raw and wants to play street ball like he did against Houston Christian. Hopefully Dana can work with him some to get him to his second read on drop backs.

The zone read RPO being an actual threat now will be interesting to watch. Haven't seen any of his highschool highlights but he seems to have a decent enough arm to make the throws we need. He just needs to settle down and trust himself. The thing that's going to hurt is he can't trust his line. That is sure way to rattle any young QB.

He has more zip on his throws and gets it out quicker. Receivers will need to adjust to a different ball and the timing, but I am sure they can do that. We have good receivers. But, It's harder to adjust in middle of game.

Excellent points, I agree.

I will add, the traditional read-option, similar to TMart & Rex/AA. It is still a difficult play to defend. EJ inside or TJ running outside. Things will open up more for EJ with it.

He played pretty poorly. But it was a tough spot. Hopefully he can get a good week of prep.

The good thing is we get UCLA for his first career start. This is good for him to have less pressure on him. Bad news is that it won't get easier for him moving as we play on the road at Penn St and our rival in Iowa. I don't think Penn has much left in the tank for desire, but they do have talent and if they decide to play for pride, it will be long day for our offensive line. Sorry to see any player lose his season based on injury. Selfishly, if TJ looks really good, he will make some major cash somewhere else next season, but that's how the game is played now.

Queen Lateef-uh. Let's ride.
