New ST Coach Mike Ekeler

But but but…IF Rhule had actually, really, for reals offered top ST pay, I know he would’ve stayed. He just would’ve because that is the only consideration for anyone in their job. Therefore, the stories of us actually offering top pay are pure bullshyt. Even guys that change jobs like I change my underwear would stay for top position pay. So, I might, just might, drone on and on about for awhile.

In other news. Today I was out walking, saw a $20 bill lying on the ground and stepped over it to pick up a penny. Pennies, much like a special teams coach, are what’s most important in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah, yeah, we get it. You don't think Ekeler's that important.

I have not said a word today about the ST situation but there are some posters who have posted non-stop smart*ss comments minimizing Eckeler's departure. Just wondering if those who don't like repeated posts will call that out as well.

But you just did... if you mean me, everyone of mine was in response to another post. I think it's necessary to separate the real concerns from the ridiculous stuff like you post.

Not a single one of us is ok with how the season ended. Guessing none of the staff or players are either. Rhule has work to do and many of us question if he can get it done. However, we can be adults about it and separate the good from the concerns and approach the offseason with optimism. That doesn't place us in a cult, it simply means we are capable of deep thinking and can put the bad behind us with hopes for better days. Lot of reason for optimism for most of us.

Many (not all) of the responses I ended up making yesterday were in response to others if you go back and look. And it wasn't you I was referring to, but the point remains that some on here are quick to call out those of us I like to call "realists" (that were right about Riley and Frost early on too) while minimizing repeated posts by those who are focused on defending the head coach over and over.

Optimism has to be earned on the field in my book and Rhule has given little reason for such optimism. I would love to see a drastic improvement in the on field performance in 2026 and that would make me feel more optimistic heading into 2027. Husker fans have a history of claiming to win the offseason only to see the same mediocre on field performances.

What would have been the harm in making him one of the top paid ST coaches in the country and giving him the title of assistant head coach?
How many asst head coaches can we have? In fact, we offered him more money that would make him 1 of the top sp coord. in college football. He is loyal to no team, just himself. He is gone, so let it go. Good bye, see you with another team in a year or 2!

What a lame excuse. Pessimists always claim to be realists, but if the team is successful, they weren’t actually based in reality at all. We have no idea what next season will be like, so all you can be is an optimist or a pessimist (there are plenty of reason for either view, but don’t pretend you’re not a pessimist).
