08 Draft

What does everyone think Sean Hill's chances are going to the next level if he has a good year as he has had so far? Anyone know what his 40 is like? Seems to be a downfield threat for us...

Mel Kiper actually has Slauson as the number 3 junior guard in the country...I dont know if he would come out early, but if he wanted to he would get drafted...

Bowman is listed by Todd McShay as the #6 CB prospect...he's a second rounder so long as he doesn't get hurt again this year...you don't "take a chance" on a 6'2" 200lb corner with a sub-4.5 40...you go after him...

I don't see any way Grixby gets drafted...like someone else said...he'll get free agent tryouts...he's just unimpressive...sure he's fast, but he doesn't really stand out as a great shutdown defender or reliable tackler...maybe someone takes a chance on him as a return man...

and speaking of Carl Nicks...I just finally watched the highlights from Saturday...can't believe he ran down from behind that guy that picked up the Lucky fumble in the endzone (LB or S i think), ran him down 20-30 yards upfield...pretty impressive

Are you guys kidding me?

Keller, Purify very late (if at all), Octavien 2nd day and Ruud shouldn't stand a chance.

That is all. Bowman would be lucky.
Well.... have you noticed how many ex-Huskers who were good but not great at NU end up very solid indeed in the NFL? People like Scott Schanle, Ruud, Fabian Washington, the bullocks brothers, etc --- all were, of course, pretty good to, at times, quite good, at NU but nowhere near the caliber a player that one would expect NFL starter status for them. So.... my point is that one cannot really tell who will and who will not make it.

But, I'd think that Octavian (were it not for his health issues) and Rudd might be borderline draftable players. Keller, who knows yet --- lets see what happens in the next seven games. Purify seems a real, real longshot to get drafted. Brett Byford is anyones guess --- interior lineman are tough to assess. That Brett is a great young man with character is certain and so I wish him the best. Bowman --- another injury guy who might be a low round risk someone is willing to gamble on.

Grixby is also an outside shot. Rather smallish and so he has that against him. But that kid deserves props he has played with great heart and has a never-say-die attitude --- a true Husker. I hope he gets a shot.

Maybe Carl Nicks is the closest thing NU has to a near certain draftable player. Again, he is an interior line guy and they are hard to judge --- yet most consider him to be really quite good.

So.... when taken as a whole, there are an array of maybes and no real certains out there. Maybe Keller will be --- only time will tell.

A lot of it depends on workouts and physicals. With Bowman, they are gonna want to look at every joint on the guy and work him out to see if he's going to hold together. If he continues to play well through the season and stays healthy, I could see a team taking him in the 3rd. Keller, if he continues to play well, will probly be a 2nd rounder. Octavien could be a first day pick. Everybody else mentioned (Ruud, Grix, etc.) will be a late round pick. If Grixby continues to play well, particularly on special teams, he'll get drafted, and if Ruud can run under a 4.7, he might go higher than expected. The main concern with him is his speed. And as far as 'Mo goes, yea he has character concerns and lacks top-flight speed, but I think if he rebounds from all the personal tragedy and continues to put up 8 catch/90 yard/1 TD performances, someone will give him a shot.

It's funny...before the season began, McKeon and Ruud were top 12 LB prospects...it will be interesting to see how our defensive play the rest of the way affects their draft chances

Bob Sanders is 5'8"

I'm not saying Grix is on the talent level of Sanders, but it can be done.
Um....Grixby is 170lbs - and that's after spending an afternoon at the Valentino's Buffet on East Campus. Sanders is 210....and he lays people out. About the only thing they have in common is that they are 5'8", so by that comparison I too would be an NFL DB.

Potential NFL prospects:

Sam Keller

Carl Nicks

Zack Bowman

Maurice Purify

Bo Ruud

Steve Octavien

Marlon Lucky --- if he declares early

Brett Byford *FA

Cortney Grixby *FA

Tierre Green *FA

Sean Hill *FA

*FA = Free Agency (i.e. undrafted)

Too early to have this conversation. After 5 games, BJax had 154 yards on 27 carries and 2 TDs. I'm sure that by these numbers, everyone expected him to go in the 2nd round.
Not too early. The draft rarely has to do with pure stats. The combine will decide everyone of these guys. Stats are if someone has some off the chart stats like Colt Brennan, etc. By the plays on the field, speed and athletic ability to can make these assessments.

And I think this is about speculation anyway. I doubt anybody on this board is close enough to be able to accurately gauge this.
But you want to be little someone's choices they made.... <_<

Bowman has top 10 talent but has been plagued by injuries. He'll be a first day pick. Someone will take a chance on him. Same goes for Sam. I think Sam will go in the 2nd or 3rd round. Octavien and Ruud both will go as well because someone will believe the hype.

I was putting down anyone's comments. Not even close to that. I was answering merely the too early to tell part and mostly agreeing with him.
