Head Coach
DB mentioned that the staff needs to stop with the "nice" and start holding players accountable and using more tough love.

He mentioned that they should decline a bowl game because things need to be fixed that are not about practice but that the table needs to be cleared off.

He made it clear from re-watching the game that certain guys on the tea,he said 30%, were not doing what they should be doing.

Benning is getting worse by the week. I can't believe he'd listen to Armstrong's press conference and then go question Armstrong's willingness to be coached.

He's becoming impossible to take seriously. I can now see why he was a complete failure as a coach.

How about calling out and fixing the 30%

And that means "at the end of the day"that 70% are awesome.

DB's program feeds off listeners. He will say anything to get more followers. He rides the fence on issues and goes back & forth in a couple of weeks. I also do not listen anymore.

Probably because he watched Armstrong's season?...

Is that his professional opinion? This is the same head coach that never won a game, right?

Former players get me. Easy to say when you aren't the head football coach dealing with the mess.

Besides - anybody that doesn't think they could use another 10 - 12 practices needs their head examined.

Only thing that he is wrong on is the bowl.

I love Tommy the player and the leadership, etc he brings to the table. But I don't see how you can watch his play over the course of this year and not question his willingness to be coached.

The home run is far, far too appealing to him. And improvising does pay off now and again. I don't think it's anybody's fault, but I'm certain it drives the coaches nuts. He just hasn't had anyone to seriously challenge him, and he's had a ton of other stuff on his plate in this first year in a new system. IMO, it was either unwilling or unable to this year, and both can change.

He may not have anybody to challenge him as a senior, either. But the incoming guy/s will have something to say about that.

It doesn't do any good to practice Seniors who won't return and it doesn't do any good for the Freshman not yet at Nebraska.

Also, a fairly successful coach by the name of Lombardi said "Practice doesn't make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect." So unless there is something new brought to these additional practices, it might just be reinforcing bad habits and lackluster effort.

So true, it will do absolutely nothing for any of the underclassmen currently on campus...

I don't know if 12 practices in December is really a huge deal come August...I have some mixed views on that. I think it is what you/they are doing from the end of the bowl game until spring that probably matters more.

12 guitar lessons wont make me Jimi Hendricks

Bowl practices are different though because for a couple weeks you're not actively preparing for an opponent. It many cases, especially for new coaches at a school, it gives them time to go back to the basics/fundamentals with their schemes and help reinforce concepts.

This team is not just seniors and freshman - there are dozens of players coming back for the next three years that Riley is going to have to lean on until his recruits hit the field.

I flat out won't buy that an extra three weeks of practice isn't beneficial in more ways than not. If the average practice is about 2 1/2 hours and lets say they get 15 more practices... that's almost 40 extra hours of learning (which doesn't include all the countless hours in the film room) these guys will be able to use as a jumping point for next season.

Going from this, he is saying that Riley & Co need to change what they are doing Sunday through Friday before things can be changed on Saturdays.
