2003 Huskers vs 2006 Huskers

I hate to admit it but as ineffective has NU was at stopping the option and zone reads this last year I can't see the 06 team beating the 03.

But who really cares, they both stunk it up IMO

'03 was not that bad (9-3, Alamo if I remember)...but I do recall that when we lost that year, we lost *badly.* Weak as the '06 secondary was, I don't think it was as bad, ,although '03 was a good year for our defense, relatively speaking.

'03, they were better defensively. I haven't seen a QB get abused as bad as Smoker did in the Alamo Bowl since then.

Slight edge to 03 in a low scoring game. I wouldn't trust the tackling by the 06 squad vs the option. Too many weak tacklers in the secondary which hurts vs a option based squad. Then again with Lord's decision making it could be interesting.

I like Pellini's ability to adjust with a go gettem defense especialy 2nd half vs 06 squad inabillity to make better 2nd half adjustments than their opponents. That would be huge I would think. Now if the 06 squad got out early and strong and put up a decent lead... the 03 squad would be in trouble playing catch up.

Refer to the posts under "Are NU fans lowering thier expectations?" and then read this post regarding which bad team was better and you'll get my views.

let's add this variable......

Lord back to pass, throws it as hard as he can, and have flu or herian run under and catch it (their only "effective" pass play that year since Lord didn't have to be accurate at all)

VS.

A. Shanle and T. Green safeties

they could do that ALL day

One of our strong suits last year was running. As good as the 2003 D was, there run defense was horrible, and that's be nice. Mizzou, UT, and KSUcks ran all over us blew us out in 03. I could see BJax, Lucky, and even Glenn sometimes running all over them, and that could set up the play action for some nice passes to Mo.

In the matchup of the 03 O vs last years D, we could say idk if we could stop the option, but what that team ran wasn't the option. It was Solich's, under the name of Barney Cotton's version of the option, which was basically Lord keeping it all the time, with the occasional pitch to Josh Davis, David Horne, Cory Ross, and a few others I think. We couldn't pass very well, except for the occasional long pass to Herian, so I give the advantage to 06 again.

Final score 34-21 06
