Briana Holman was named the Ameritas Classic's MVP after Nebraska went 3-0. Holman was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week today.

• Named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, highlighted by 25 kills with a .525 hitting percentage to go with 18 blocks
• The 2016 Academic All-Big Ten honoree collects her first career Defensive Player of the Week accolade

Kelly Hunter is the Setter of the Week for 9/11/17.

• Posted 75 set assists to average 12.5 per set, guiding No. 12 Nebraska to a pair of victories over No. 11 UCLA
• Registered her first double-double of the season with 31 assists and 14 digs in the Huskers’ sweep of UCLA on Saturday night
• Averaged 2.7 digs per set on the weekend and led the team to a .301 hitting percentage
• The two time Academic All-Big Ten honoree receives her seventh career Setter of the Week citation and first of the season

Big week for the Huskers, and some well-earned awards after sweeping two conference opponents on the road.  That includes the first sweep at home for #2 and previously unbeaten Penn State since 2003.

Sept. 25, 2017

Player of the Week
Annika Albrecht, Nebraska
OH - Sr. - North Aurora, Ill. - Home Schooled
• Averaged 5.2 kills and 1.7 digs per set for a .379 hitting percentage to help No. 14 Nebraska open Big Ten play with a 2-0 record
• Led the Huskers to a sweep at No. 2 Penn State with a career-high 19 kills on .400 hitting to go with six digs and four blocks
• Recorded 12 kills, four digs and a block in the victory at Rutgers
• The Academic All-Big Ten Honoree earns her first career Player of the Week award
• Last Nebraska Player of the Week: Amber Rolfzen (Oct. 24, 2016)

Setter of the Week

• Posted 74 set assists to average 12.3 per set with a .615 hitting percentage in guiding No. 14 Nebraska to straight-set wins over No. 2 Penn State and Rutgers
• Registered 39 set assists, nine digs, six kills and a block to help the Huskers defeat conference-foe Penn State in straight sets
• Led the Huskers to a .347 hitting percentage at Penn State and a .376 hitting clip at Rutgers
• The two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree receives her seventh career Setter of the Week citation and second of the season

You want to know what's ridiculous?  After sweeping then- #3 Minnesota (and making it look easy) and knocking off #7 Wisconsin, the Huskers earned ZERO weekly Big Ten awards.

We're waiting on national awards.  We'll see how that goes.

 
Foecke ends Nebraska's drought of in-season award winners.  It's been five weeks since a Husker has won an in-season award like this.  In that time Nebraska has gone 9-1 and beaten five ranked opponents, including two on the road.

Co-Players of the Week

OH – Sr. – West Point, Iowa – Holy Trinity Catholic
• Averaged 3.9 kills, 2.0 digs and 1.1 blocks per set with a .387 hitting percentage as No. 7 Nebraska went 2-0 in Big Ten action on the weekend
• Registered 14 kills, five digs, three blocks and a service ace for a .394 hitting percentage in Nebraska’s win at 10th-ranked Michigan State
• Posted a match-high five blocks, while adding 13 kills and nine digs in the Huskers’ win at Michigan
• The Academic All-Big Ten honoree garners her first career Player of the Week award

Today, my grapes are a bit sour.  Nebraska leads the Big Ten with a 13-1 conference record, including a three-game sweep of co-number one Penn State.  The Huskers have been playing solid volleyball since mid-September.  You'd think they'd have a fair number of in-season honors by now, wouldn't you?  I mean, a team playing that well for almost eight weeks should have some decent players, right? 

Meh.  Not according to the Big Ten.

The Big Ten has handed out 53 awards for in-season play.  Nebraska has garnered five of them.

Penn State, tied atop the Big Ten, has nine. 

Minnesota, third in conference standings, has fifteen.  Fifteen!

Wisconsin, the only team to beat Nebraska, has 12. 

I mean... how is that possible?  Realistically.
