2017 NCAA Volleyball Final Four

I was not an avid Nebraska volleyball fan (until now!) and I was curious if anyone had some thoughts on this.  Based on my very uneducated eye test, it seemed to me that Penn State and Florida both had better athletes, in the sense that they seemed bigger, faster, and stronger on the whole.  But that Nebraska seemed much better coached.  Agree or disagree?

Those teams have that one or two "standout" players that can totally control a game, no doubt. NU, on this years team, was not expected to get this far, let along win the whole thing. They really did it via teamwork and just plain a$$ hard work. This just shows you how good of coaches John and his assistants are! Foecke is one of those players, and it really showed in those last two games. She was quiet at times during the season mainly because her role changed somewhat this year. Albrecht was really the surprise player in my opinion, and was key to NU's success this year. She was always good in the back row, but this year she was a much improved outside hitter.

NU pretty much always has top ranked classes, they are just used differently, and often times don't seem like the standout because of their role. Next year will be a fun ride.. Holman, Strivins, Sweet, and one player we didn't see a bunch this year, but is an elite player is Anezka Szabo. Her role will increase next year for sure, with Albrecht being gone.... and of course we have Foecke back for another year.

We very well could see a repeat!

Holman is a Senior but I agrre that we have enough back for a possible repeat. 

 
It's pretty crazy the talent we'll lose from this roster.

OH - Boender

DS/L - Townsend

Boender has retired from Volleyball and the rest graduate (or, in the case of Bri Holman, have already graduated).  That's a fearsome lineup right there, and a lot of players to lose. 

But the cupboards are far from bare.  Next year's big contributors will be:

S - Atherton

MB - Stivrins

OP - Sweet

OH - Foecke

DS/L - Maloney

We've also got Densberger coming back with experience as a Serving & Defensive Specialist.  Atherton hasn't played a lot, but she's highly skilled and I have no worries about her running the show next year.

This is a very solid core of kids coming back from this championship team.  We lose TONS of talent, but we'll be fine reloading. 

Our 2018 Recruiting Class looks pretty solid:

Capri Davis - 6'1" MB/OH (probably OH in Cook's system) is the #21 recruit in the nation

Nicklin Hames - 5'11" S, the top-ranked Setter in the nation for this class and the #4 overall recruit in the nation

Megan Miller - 5'7" Libero, fourth-ranked Libero and the #55 overall recruit in the nation

Callie Schwarzenbach - 6'4" MB, top-ten recruit in the nation

We may not win another championship next year, but it won't be for lack of talent.

Maybe it is just me but I wasnt all impressed with Townsend this year.  At times, i thought she was more of a liability then a help.  

 
Sydney is a solid player, but she's not as talented as some others we've had back there.  Maloney is currently our best DS/L and we bring in another good one in Miller.

The replacement setter is supposed to be very good, so ti sounds like we may not drop that much.

here is Hunters bio before Nebraska..

• Redshirted the 2016 season
• Attended Dublin Coffman High School in Dublin, Ohio
• Graduated early to join the Huskers for the 2016 spring semester
• Ranked the No. 41 prospect in 2016 by PrepVolleyball.com and the No. 8 setter
• Named an Under Armour first-team All-American
• Won the Best Setter award at the Under Armour All-America showcase
• Named Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year
• Was a two-time all-Ohio first-team selection
• Led Dublin Coffman to the Division I state final as a senior in 2015
• Averaged 9.7 assists per set as a senior with 171 digs, 146 kills and 38 aces
• Played club volleyball with Mintonette Sports VBC
