2025-26 Season Notes

Thought of a fun hypothetical last night. Would you rather:

A. We make a run to the Elite Eight but don’t win another tournament game for the next decade
B. We get bounced in the round of 32 but make the tournament every year for the next 5

Either way we get the monkey off our back, but I’ve been saying “just get me one win and the rest is house money”. This helped me challenge that a bit.

Good basketball has been so fun to watch! I'm spoiled now. I'd sacrifice a 7th place is the 6th loser for a chance to make a run in the tourney every year for 5.

I need to know what the results are of those next 5 years if I'm going to make a choice in the hypothetical.

If it's 1 win in the next 6 years of tourney appearances then I pick A because it will be way more fun.

B - and it isn't even close. I would really like to see our basketball team consistently in the conversation.

I really think your hypothetical is unrealistic though. If we make any kind of a run this year, that momentum is likely to carry over in the form of recruiting and wins in following years.
 
I'm going with A. I started going to games with my dad when Cipriano was the coach, so I've lived through some pretty ugly years and can live through more, but an Elite 8 run would be SO FU**IN' AWESOME.

Be careful for what you wish for. I live in Tulsa. Our sons went to Univ of Tulsa. UT was often a round of 32 participant in the 80s and 90s starting with Nolan Richardson as coach. 1990s- several Sweet 16 visits. When Bill Self was coach, they were in the Elite 8 and missed the Final Four due to a 3 point loss to North Carolina. That was the 1999-2000 season. Tulsa hasn't been relevant since.

B - consistently making the tournament is what I want to see. Each year building on the one before and eventually we find ourselves in the Final 4. Go Huskers - make it happen. Do the Indiana football thing in basketball
 
As long as it’s not a 2 way tie with Purdue we have the 4 seed locked down at worse…if Purdue and Wisconsin win out and we lose out it’s a 3 way tie and we have the better overall record so we are the 4.

Idk maybe I don’t know the weird tiebreaker rules but head to head only matters with a 2 way tie. So…yeah I think we are a lock for a triple bye regardless
