We need at least one receiver to really step up (Gilleylen is probably the guy, IMO, although Brooks seems to be doing alright, and Holt has so much potential with his size and athleticism), the offensive line needs to be more physical, and most importantly, we need Green to at least give us the threat of firing strikes 15-20 yards down the middle of the field. This offense isn't going to suddenly become great, but it has the potential to improve a lot in the remaining half of the season. Nowhere to go but up.
With a passing threat, Watson will magically look a lot smarter. Remember, last season we had a pretty good offensive team:
Final 2008 stats:
Total offense: 450.8 ypg (12th in the nation)
Scoring offense: 35.4 ppg (25th in the nation)
Even with the stat boost from half our games being in the Sun Belt so far, we're averaging 384.7 ypg and 32.3 ppg. Against the real defenses, obviously, even those numbers go way down.
