And the Big East tried adding San Diego and Boise State, failed, and renamed itself a ripoff of the ACC in hopes of tricking recruits.

I had the same thought, but apparently it's not a big surprise.

10 years ago was 2003 - we weren't exactly good then. The only part we couldn't have fathomed is the Big Ten bit - losing to two good but not great teams in our conference? Easily fathomable, even from 10 years ago.
