8 game conference season

Listening to college game day the idea was brought up that all the major 5 conferences play 8 conference games and the remaining four games had to be from the other 5 major conferences. Much harder schedule, but we would see the games we really want to see. What do you guys think?

It sounds good but I think some of the mid major conferences would throw a fit. They want a chance to knock of the big boys and cause some drama, maybe even have a BCS buster in there.

The thinking was the power 5 would break away from the NCAA in so many words. It is going to force those that have not joined a major conference to do it. Pointed at Notre Dame, BYU.

The haves and havenots for sure.

The point is they are not going to have a say in it I guess. 5 Major conferences breaking away from the NCAA. I have no idea if it will or could happen. But it does make sense

Saban actually has been vocal about the power 5 only playing other power 5.

The power 5 breaking away from the NCAA is a plausible, and very real possibility if the 'autonimity' that has been talked about doesnt get them what they want. A lot of the idiotic rules in the NCAA have been pushed by the lower tier conferences and schools.

Think about 8 conference games, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa, Penn State and the rest, after playing UCLA, Oklahoma State, Clemson and Georgia. What a load, but we would know who the National Champion was for sure. I doubt that schedule could ever happen, but they could get close for some programs. I hate the McNeese States, and SDSU games. I do not think the kids are into them either. They came to a major program to play tough competition and better themselves.

We can always dream. Undefeated seasons might be a thing of the past for anyone though.

Without some sort of revenue sharing deal, there's no chance. The lower tier schools need the big school money to survive.

Under there current system sure - however DIV 2 schools have no problem surviving - and they aren't depending on the B1G handout. If things shifted in this direction, the lower tier schools would shift with it. They'd be marginalized to a different class sure, but that's kind of the point.

Much rather Nebraska/Oregon, Nebraska/Florida State, Nebraska/Alabama, Nebraska/Clemson, Nebraska/Oklahoma or even Alabama/Oregon, South Carolina/Ohio State with 3 more high level games to follow each of the ones listed. Truly what college football was about when conceived. We have a chance to play Penn State, with this new idea, it eliminates hiding in conference, never leaving the state to play out of conference games, see Florida. Other SEC teams play out of state, but normally at a neutral site.

They were talking about the different Networks, making the lesser games/division more important financially.

The only reason it would not work is because the School Presidents and the Bowl systems do not want it at this time. But the idea is floating around.

As Packer and Eddie George said, it makes too much sense for it to happen. But with it and the playoff system expanding to 8, it could quickly be and equal draw to pro football, I think.
