A fair Mizzou Fan's Perspective...

Walk-on
Hey...another Mizzou fan here before the game saturday. Here is my take on the game after watching the Huskers vs. WF and USC, and Mizzou vs. Illinois.....

Mizzou D versus Nebraska O:

I would have to give the advantage to you on this one. Mizzou's run defense has been pretty porous, particularly in the second half. We have played pretty well in the first half of games but there seems to be a hangover after halftime. I would expect Lucky to have over 100 yards. Mizzou's Defense can run to the ball and fly around, but they have trouble staying in their gaps and getting off of blocks.

Sam Keller scares the heck out of me, I think he has been a bit inconsistent, but he surprised me with his strong play against USC. Mizzou has no pass rush and will have to blitz to get pressure, which plays into the short passing game you guys play. I think Mizzou will try to pressure Keller and get him to make mistakes, if he has all day he will pick us apart.

Mizzou O versus Nebraska D:

I would have to give the advantage to us, we have a guy named Danario Alexander coming back from injury this week, I believe he had a career game in Lincoln last year. We also have the top all-purpose guy in Jeremy Maclin. Throw in Tony Temple , Chase Coffman, and Martin Rucker, and we are pretty stacked.

The key for Mizzou is turnovers, if they take care of the ball it might be a long day for your D. Turnovers were the main reason for Missouri losses last year.

I would expect Mizzou to run some end-arounds similar to what WF ran with success against you earlier in the year.

Special Teams:

Probably pretty much even, there might be a slight advantage with Jeremy Maclin returning punts (has 2TD so far). It looks like Adi Kunalic can boom the ball, Jeff Wolfert has been a little inconsistent so far this year. We had a punt blocked by Illinois that was returned for a TD and also a net of 0, but the special teams has been better.

Coaching and Intangibles:

Playing in Columbia is a big deal, Mizzou plays very well at home. The bye week is also an advantage for us as well. Pinkel does make some dumbfounding decisions at times but I think he also gets a bad rap for certain things as well.

The Cosgrove factor plays into our hands, the blackshirt d is not near as good as it was in 2003, and I don't know what Cosgrove was thinking against Brad Smith in 2005.

It could be a wash...

I could see Mizzou jumping out to a big lead, Nebraska coming back and the game coming down to the last 10 minutes or so, it should be awesome.

As an aside note, my sister and brother-in-law just move to Lincoln over the summer (he is a chem prof there now) and they absolutely love it..

Sorry for the long post, I am going to hang around this week and I hope the game is good...

Good breakdown

The home field is huge. I hope we can negate it by jumping ahead early and holding the lead.

Welcome to Huskerboard, and nice take on the upcomming game.

Great post and welcome to our board. I wish NU had demonstrated a fast start so far this year to take your crowd out of it...and the 8:15 start will allow too many of you Tigers to spend waaaaayyyy too much time priming for the game.

Should be an interesting match...I did see something in our local paper (The Topeka Crapital Journal) that said it was scary to give Pinkel an extra week to 'over prepare' his game plan against the Huskers.

Tough to argue with this explanation. Special teams wise, we haven't missed a FG yet (although now that I have said that we will) but Grixby has shown quite a spark here in the last few games. I'm pretty limited on Missouri, but with your explanation, it explains a lot

Regardless good to have you aboard

Welcome to the board and I like you statement. Mizzoou is a good team but I'm courious to see how they do against another good team. It could go either way.

welcome to the board. this is going to be a tough game for us to win.

good luck, classy, informed post.

michzoufan, your board ID leads me to believe your in michigan. just curious where, im in kalamazoo, and where you may be watchin the game. i hate going to watch the husker game and being the only one even remotely interested in seeing it. welcome to our board

Welcome to the board buddy. It's great to see an informed Mizzou fan who isn't just running their mouth. I agree with most of your breakdown, but watch out for Grixby because he has been really close to breaking some kickoffs and punt returns this year. It's definately going to be an offensive game, but we haven't played well down in Columbia for a while so this game has me worried. I still think the North comes down to us and Mizzou so we'll have to see. Good luck and here's to no injuries. :thumbs

I'm a big Mizzou Fan and I wanna say as well that it was a good assessment of the game. It looks to be very even to me between our two teams however I wouldn't be suprised to see either team run away with this seeing as how this year has panned out thus far.

On a sidenote: I'm impressed with the vast majority of Nebraska Fans. They seem to know their football and are not mouthy in general (sure, there are a few bad eggs with every school) but very nice and knowledgable for the most part. I was on a National College Football Message Board the other day and it seems everyone from the Big East, ACC, SEC, etc enjoys mouthing the Big 12 and especially the Huskers, the worst coming from WVU and Rutgers (I've seen very few posts from these schools that weren't nasty). Also, the NU fans as a whole are steps above the Buff fans. (Yes, as far as the Big 12 goes, the CU fans are the most cocky for sure in my experiences). I know I know, I'm supposed to mouth our Jayhawk Rivals but I see what I see...

Here's to a good game and Welcome to Columbia....

Barnacle....

Agreed. Always been impressed with Nebraska fans, never a bad experience from this Mizzou fan. Hope everyone has a good experience in Columbia.

And remember, always, Mizzou is as tough as rain.

A very fair, unbiased assessment. I agree with you on every single point, but I think our special teams are going to pull something special this Saturday. Here's to an excellent game and please come back after it's done! :)
