A guy named chase rome

He redshirted last year and I believe he sat out the Spring Game with an injury that wasn't considered serious.

Rome sat out the spring game with an injury.

This is an interesting player, to be honest. I've talked to him several times before and he is a very quiet young man. I'm interested in seeing when his name starts getting thrown around for playing time. He's in the right physical condition for it, no question.

He practiced with the 1's and 2's last year at DT. Although he has the speed to play DE in college with a speed in the low 4.7's. This kid is a freak at DT size with DE speed. The only reason he didn't play last year was the coaches said he was too talented to burn a redshirt behind the depth they had. They didn't want to use him because they didn't necessarily need him last year because they had a lot of experience at the DT position. But coaches mentioned him early this spring and at the end of last year that he would definitely see time this year on the field. Coach Carl said last week that the Defensive line is 3 deep and 4 deep in some places. I think Rome cracks the 2 deep by the end of the year.

I was disappointed when Rome didn't play last year. Didn't he have some injury right before the season started?

btw, His dad was a college wrestler, then a pro MMA fighter for several years, and now owns a gym where they train MMA fighters. Great article about them last year here:

It is not surprising that Rome wanted to be a wrestler. His father Wade Rome was a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter and owned his own gym, Chase Rome had been surrounded by fighting his entire life.
What started as college wrestling and the occasional tough guy fight at a bar turned into a career for Wade Rome. In addition to fighting professionally for seven years, he and some of his friends started American Top Team, a gym specifically aimed to train fighters. LINK

Thanks guys. Glad to hear I'm not making up names.

Also, if he returns 100%

it's nice to have a guy who's quiet and goes about his business and doesn't receive a lot of hoopla. After all the rah rah about new guys and new positions, I hope this kid can establish himself well
