Adam Taylor to Redshirt

I think part of the reason for this move is that Newby played in offense much more similar to the one that we currently run at Nebraska. So he's got the advantage of being more familiar with the schemes, playbook, philosophy, etc. So it makes sense to give Taylor an extra season to get up to speed, so he can hit the ground running next season and not blow a year of eligibility while he's really just trying to learn the offense.

Precisely. I think the staff knows we have enough talent to get by and even thrive without having to use him so why not save him for another year after we lose Cross/Abdullah. I think they see his talent and know that another year in the system will only benefit him. Give him the mental time to really learn the offense... keep him taking reps with the 1st team instead of all scout team and I think you'll see him really blossom from that mentality. People from Katy who know Adam all say he is a selfless, team first person. He is also hard on himself and expects a lot out of himself... maybe he looked at the other guys and wanted a year to learn from them and adjust to the college speed before being put in the fire. I don't think it's selfish at all for him to request a redshirt... it's wise.

I think this is a great move. Now... between Taylor and Newby, NU gets 5 years of contribution rather than 4. Spreading out the roster to cover a position for a longer time if the present is already talent rich (like the RB position is currently w/ Abdullah, Cross, Newby and King) makes all the sense in the world. Good roster management.
