Huskers Add Games to 2012 and 2013 Schedules
The Nebraska football program has announced the addition of two home football games to future schedules, one each in the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

The Huskers will take on Arkansas State in Lincoln on Sept. 15, 2012. The matchup with Arkansas State is an addition to a non-conference schedule that also includes a Sept. 1 opener against Southern Miss in Lincoln and a Sept. 8 trip to UCLA. Nebraska has one remaining opening on its 2012 non-conference schedule.

The 2013 schedule is now complete with the addition of a non-conference contest with South Dakota State on Sept. 21, 2013.

The game will be the second meeting at Memorial Stadium between the two schools, after Nebraska defeated the Jackrabbits, 17-3 last fall in Lincoln. The South Dakota State game was Nebraska's closest non-conference matchup in the 2010 campaign.

Not every game can be a quality opponent. Every top 25 program in the country schedules at least two cupcakes every year.

 
I live in socal and I can't wait for Husker Nation to invade the Rose Bowl when we play UCLA next year.

 
I will get on my soapbox again but the one of the biggest flaws in the college game is scheduling. Why can't the scheduling be handled by the NCAA or BCS instead of each school individually? It will lead to far less debate about SOS.

My solution:

1 vs. Cupcake

3 vs. Other BCS Conferences (on a rotating basis - ala NFL) based on PY standing. Example - Yr 1, Big 10 Legends #1 plays ACC Coastal #1,3 & 5; Yr. 2 Big 10 Legends #1 vs SEC East #1,3,5.

It's my understanding that it's getting increasingly expensive to schedule even non-bcs schools, to the tune of 800k to 1m bucks. It sucks to play against joke teams, but I think it's better if the school decides their own schedule.

No, what we're done with is playing quality OOC opponents, because of the Big Ten conference slate. Especially if it moves to 9 teams. That much has been said, I think. On one hand it's disappointing. On another, it's not.

Until we can actually put away these "joke" teams before the 4th quarter or have to rely on the refs to give us a few calls (TD not ruled a TD, and a interception for a TD called back I believe), then we shouldn't criticize... See SDSU 2010. :)

I think this is just temporary. The next 3 years we need to watch budget as much as anything since we won't be full members of the B10 and remember we basically took a year without revenue. We need to put a few lower priced teams on the schedule. Once we have the full payout and the extra b10 game we'll probably try to get some more conference USA or Sunbelt type teams depending on the cost of the opponents. Remember people aren't jumping at the chance to play us either. Boise State turned us down.

That's fine, but I'm pretty sure it was explicitly stated last year sometime that they didn't want to schedule anymore FCS schools.

They did say that, with a caveat. They also said its not always possible, or financially reasonable. Many of the Buffalo and Ohio type programs are starting to demand either a $1 million paycheck, or a home and home. Hence our trip to Wyoming.
