QB Evridge to transfer from K-State

Allan Evridge is leaving the Kansas State football program.
The sophomore quarterback from Papillon, Neb., said he told associate athletic director for football operations Sean Snyder of his decision today.
"I did everything they asked of me, on and off the field," Evridge said in an interview this afternoon with The Eagle.
Evridge said Snyder told him he'd be granted a release from his K-State scholarship.
Coach Ron Prince did not immediately return a phone message left on his cell phone this afternoon.
K-State is now left with two scholarship quarterbacks, senior Dylan Meier and freshman Josh Freeman.
Evridge is the third quarterback to leave K-State in the past five months -- Kevin Lopina announced his intentions in April and transferred to Washington State in June, and Allen Webb landed at Texas College in late July. He's also the fifth Wildcat to depart the program since June. Wide receiver Ro Grigsby said in June he was forced out and offensive lineman Ryan Schmidt enrolled at South Florida in early July.
As a redshirt freshman in 2005, Evridge started six games, completing 102 of 213 passes for 1,365 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions. The highlight of his season was a 357-yard showing against Texas A&M, an effort that stands as the ninth-best single-game passing total in school history.
He was an Academic All-Big 12 selection.
In the spring, he split repetitions with Lopina and Freeman. But Saturday, the first practice of the fall, Evridge seemed to be the odd man out. He received only four reps, while Meier and Freeman were each in double figures.
"I even contemplated moving to defense just to get on the field," Evridge said. "I did everything right by the program but it didn't look like I was going to be given an opportunity to contribute to the team in the way I would have liked."
He is unsure of his future, but will consult with family and friends to determine where he might end up.
"I want to thank the fans and my teammates," Evridge said. "I really enjoyed my time at K-State."
