Alex Lewis' long road home

http://m.espn.go.com/ncf/story?storyId=11466333

"My road here was bumpy," Lewis said. "I never thought I'd go through what I went through, never thought I'd be a part of such a great team, such a loyal fan base."

Lewis said he set out from the day of his arrival in Nebraska to clear his name. Work remains.

"He was on a mission," Pelini said. "Right, wrong or indifferent, there was a perception out there -- there still is -- that he would like to change."

Lewis may have time on his side. Despite living only in Arizona before college, he feels a connection so strong to Nebraska that he plans to stay. For good.

Wherever life takes Lewis after college, he told his mother, he would return to Lincoln. He wants to take over the ranch from his grandparents and raise his family where he can hear the roars from Memorial Stadium, rolling across the flatland.

A simple reason: It's home.

That is a great story. I hope he continues to grow and become the man he wants to be. Nebraska is the right place for him.

I enjoyed reading the part where Armstrong and Abdullah had wrote him letters to stay positive and what not. Talk about leadership from those two.

Many, including myself, wondered what was behind Bo's decision to take this guy, and to stick with him after what happened. But we know well by now, that Bo is a pretty strong judge of character and doesnt let the sole gleam of wins and losses cloud judgement. Alex will prove to everyone he was well worth the risk.

A great kid who had a momentary lapse in judgement. He's owned up to what he did. I liked the part where he wanted his sister to know every detail about what he did to wind up in jail. He's not hiding from it. Nice dogs too!

Agree with you about this. I think this speaks more to his character than anything else. Most people would try to bury it as far down as they can. Him embracing it, owning up to it, and seeing it as a learning experience shows his maturity. He's quickly becoming a fan favorite, and for good reason. Keep up the good work young man, you have an entire state plus rooting for you.

Ha ha! At the risk of being overly jaded, is this article for real? It seems like a thinly veiled media ploy to rehabilitate Lewis' image after the debacle in Boulder. Don't get me wrong, I'm fully supportive of Lewis. And I think he got jobbed over that fight thing in Colorado. But this article is over-the-top syrupy feel good. I'd rank it right up there with Pelini's cat.

Or perhaps I'm just a grumpy, jaded asshat. In any case, I'm very glad Alex Lewis kept his nose clean this past year, and is thriving in Lincoln.

CAN IT BE THAT THE ARTICLE IS A LITTLE SYRUPY AND THAT YOU ARE AN ASSHAT AS WELL?

Yes. Those are not mutually exclusive possibilities. lol

I should mention that I'd much rather read a syrupy feel good article like that than a sky-is-falling piece bagging on the Huskers.

Gotta love the passion he has for not only the football team, but the entire state.

Can't wait to see how his career turns out here in Lincoln!

Well put +1. Side note. I believe one of my favorite things about Mr Pelini is how well spoken and articulate he is. Not necessarily solely in this article but throughout his time at NU. Now I know he's also inserted his foot in his mouth a few times but who hasn't.
