Of course I can't. I'm not idiotic enough to make claims like that. I also don't have a first instinct to blame players. I also don't have a first instinct to blame coaches. I observe things and I think about things and I form opinions that range all the way across the spectrum, and I guarantee that almost all of them are pretty uneducated, stupid, ignorant and clueless.

1. Post season individual honors tend to flow from unit success more than intrinsic ability or even production
2. NU has historically (going back to the expansion of the conference to 12 teams) had about 5.8 defenders per season receive honors of some sort from the coaches. NU has 5 this year, which puts it not that far outside of the average.
So, I don't think the lack of all-conference players tells us much about the talent level of the current team. Do you actually disagree with that statement or are you just looking to argue?
P.s., if you're really just worried about people on a BBS having a strongly held opinion, why are you questioning me on mine rather than the 3 to 6 people who have used the subject matter of this thread to form an opinion that NU doesn't have the talent it needs to compete?

So statistically, this has been our best defense since 2010? And we need to fire Banker?

Boyd Epley flat out said the football team was about 3 years behind the "boy bigs" in college football talent wise. If his talent evaluation system works which I assume it does, then Banker did a decent job.
We are in a hole talent and depth wise due to the previous staff that I hope we can climb out of. The Ohio state game exposed it and the Iowa game confirmed it. Riley needs 2 more years. Took Ferentz 4 years to get the ball rolling and I'll give HCMR the same. 9-3 this year sure felt better then 9-3 with Blow Pelini. It's nice not to see a grown man acting like a juvenile delinquent on the side lines. And we're beat up.....we'll be a new team come bowl time.

This is not surprising but irks me because we should do better on defense. We have the unique
tradition that should attract more talent. I still have hope in recruiting. But this only validates why we are a good but not great team at this time. It makes our 9-3 respectable...we simply don't have the talent at this time. Who are guys we expect to be on this list in the top 3 all conference teams next year? I think Kalu and Jones can be pretty good next year. I like M. Newby. After that...not sure what we have with individual talent on defense? Freedom can ball but needs consistency with his play. Gosh, I am waiting for that kid or kids that just wants to come in here and own the Blackshirt tradition as his own. One of the best defensive brands in college football and only Suh has really done anything with it in recent years. We should have a stellar defender or two every year.

based on his curved athletic performance index, wasnt it that only 2 football players last winter tested better than any of our volleyball players? or something along those lines. I know our volleyball team is Alabamaish on the volleyball side of things, but it shows how far behind football actually is
Again. we have talented players. But we're not an overly talented team.

Epley said seven football players scored in the 1,700s. Twenty were at 900 or below. Epley said that 900 figure is a good benchmark for walk-ons. NU has a significant number over 1,500.-OWH

I bet the cream puffs are in the trenches. Somewhat concerning 20 players are under 900. The article doesn't specify if they're scholarship players are not.

very good. thanks. I didnt know the exact numbers. And i dont have the ambition to look. I just remember there being a pretty glaring comparison to volleyball. Which again, isnt a knock cuz volleyball is a full speed freight train right now. But it showed how far off we from being at even a level we want to be.
