Allen, West, Thenarse all "full go"
Husker head coach Bo Pelini said during Monday's conference call that defensive end Pierre Allen and defensive backs Anthony West and Rickey Thenarse are all ready to play.
"They're all full go," Pelini said.
Allen injured his ankle in the second quarter of the last game. West didn't play at all in that game and Thenarse hasn't played since the first game.
As for Virginia Tech's well-known special teams, which have a reputation for blocking kicks, Pelini said: "We don't want to do anything different as much as just make sure you're sound and you do it well and execute. When you play a good football team like Virginia Tech, it's not going to be about tricking them or doing anything like that. You have to play sound, you have to play well and execute your techniques to perfection or they take advantage of it."
And what about quarterback Tyrod Taylor, the sophomore who has guided the Hokies to three straight wins since coming out of a planned redshirt?
Pelini said he was impressed with the quarterback's athleticism last year when he saw Taylor late in the game against LSU, a contest won by the Tigers 48-7.
"He can hurt you with his feet, with his arm," Pelini said. "He can give you that added dimension that so many people are looking for."
It appeared that Taylor hurt his left/ankle foot late in the North Carolina game, but Tech coach Frank Beamer said on a conference call of his own that the quarterback is fine.
When asked if it was possible Nebraska might see some of Tech's other quarterback Sean Glennon, Beamer said: "We don't talk about quarterbacks, and quarterbacks won't do interviews this week. That policy's been here two or three weeks."
