Ameer isn't any good? Sure. Right.

Starter
Ameer Abdullah, RB, Detroit Lions (No. 54)
Throughout the preseason, Abdullah was lauded as this tremendous steal who would immediately emerge as a star in the NFL. Some even compared him to Barry Sanders. While his Week 1 performance gave fans reason to be excited, it’s been a completely different story since. So far, Abdullah hasn’t lived up to the hype.

Ameer by the numbers
14 for 48
6 for 16
13 for 33
8 for 23
6 for 9
7 for 50

AVG 9 for 29

Granted, those numbers are not what Ameer would like to see, but he is a rookie for the love of football. JEEZ.
Rookies, as a rule, can not be counted on to be major players. Those who step up and play great their first year in the league are the exception, not the rule.

This same web site said that Winston is a bust because he is throwing too many picks as a rookie. Every rookie does that.

Also, speaking of QBs, the Detroit attack has always been about the forward pass. For the first three games they have attempted 41, 70, 35, 45, 53, and 30.

Really Detroit ... 70 passes in a single game.

Not being a Detroit fan, I can’t say for sure, but I am willing to bet a modest amount of cash that Ameer isn’t getting carries in a bunch together over a number of drives. The numbers alone bear that out. And that means that Ameer isn’t getting into any sort of rhythm.

If Detroit hates Ameer so much, he can gladly come to my NFL team. And a lot of other fans would say the same.

If you've watched any of Detroits games their line isn't very good. Most times he carries the ball he's doing a great job just getting back to the line if scrimmage.

Detroit's offensive line is also abysmal, one of the bottom ten in the league. He and many of the other backs are constantly having to dodge defenders in the backfield. Throw in the fact that he's a rookie and you're going to have some struggles.

The Vikings have had some very good run blocking lines in the last few seasons - throw AA behind that and I think we'd be seeing a different player.

Here is what I'll say.

Detroit's line is bad.

Detroit is trying too hard to use 4 different running backs.

Remember how it was going for us when we were trying to use 4 different backs?

Perhaps with Zenner out, Detroit will start to narrow it down.

Ameer does need to take care of his fumbling issues though.

GO ABDULLAH!!!

No stinkin' way, is that right? 70 Passes in one game!?

That "article" or whatever was posted on October 1st. That was 3 games into the season. It's just click bait garbage

I read the article the other day and my first thought was Ahman Green.

Green went to (I think) Seattle right out of college and really didn't do much. He returned some kicks but really didn't shine as a star RB. Then, he went to Green Bay and had a great career with a team that had good talent around him.

I predict this is the rout Ameer's career will take. If he can have a good team around him, especially the line, he will do very well.

Let's hope he finds that team.

Green was also knocked for fumbling issues early on. I think that is why the Seattle coach said he was traded...

Nobody is getting yards behind that Lions offensive line this year. Their original starter Joique Bell was averaging only 1.1 yards a carry before he got injured. Plus the fumbling is an issue for a lot of rookies, remember Adrian Peterson was fumbling like crazy his first couple years. I've watched Ameer a lot this year he's looking good out there. He's still got those shifty moves. When he figured out the fumbling he'll be just fine.

Yup. He did drop a few before being traded so we could ultimately draft Shaun Alexander. It still pisses me off he got traded, Alexander was good but that had more to do with an amazing OL than Run out Bounds before Contact Shaun Alexander.

Ameer is the Lions leading rusher on a team inclined to pass, and he's tied for touchdown leader (a modest 2, but still).

He also has 13 receptions for 113 yards, and is the #2 kickoff returner in the NFL, averaging 30 yard a return.

The Lions are happy with Ameer Abdullah, and the national broadcasters continue to pump him up as a future star.

The Lions aren't happy with the team itself, but that's been going on for about 60 years.
