Ameer Abdullah, RB, Detroit Lions (No. 54)
Throughout the preseason, Abdullah was lauded as this tremendous steal who would immediately emerge as a star in the NFL. Some even compared him to Barry Sanders. While his Week 1 performance gave fans reason to be excited, it’s been a completely different story since. So far, Abdullah hasn’t lived up to the hype.

Ameer by the numbers
14 for 48
6 for 16
13 for 33
8 for 23
6 for 9
7 for 50
AVG 9 for 29
Granted, those numbers are not what Ameer would like to see, but he is a rookie for the love of football. JEEZ.
Rookies, as a rule, can not be counted on to be major players. Those who step up and play great their first year in the league are the exception, not the rule.
This same web site said that Winston is a bust because he is throwing too many picks as a rookie. Every rookie does that.
Also, speaking of QBs, the Detroit attack has always been about the forward pass. For the first three games they have attempted 41, 70, 35, 45, 53, and 30.
Really Detroit ... 70 passes in a single game.
Not being a Detroit fan, I can’t say for sure, but I am willing to bet a modest amount of cash that Ameer isn’t getting carries in a bunch together over a number of drives. The numbers alone bear that out. And that means that Ameer isn’t getting into any sort of rhythm.
If Detroit hates Ameer so much, he can gladly come to my NFL team. And a lot of other fans would say the same.
