Another Great Defensive Performance Downplayed

Couple of thoughts I had the last couple hours, so I thought I would share.

Gripes

1) Stop calling Asante a thug or blaming individual players. The defense did all they could to win this game, at times making stupid mistakes. We have a championship defense with a terrible offense. This offense mixed with the 2007 defense would have gotten us 2 wins at most, I would argue.

2) The refs called a pretty good game, like it or not. The only bad call I had was the first P.I. Ball was uncatchable, the player gave up on the play, and the player didn't even have his head turned towards the ball. I was very disappointed in the lack of discussion on this.

3) I hated the call of bringing CG into the game for one drive. It started at the one yard line, he's a Freshman running an offense he wasn't recruited to run, and it seemed like a wasted drive. Even if Lee was having another one of those games, I still don't see the point. They didn't give CG a chance to do anything. If we are going to start basing player performance off of one drive, then there is something seriously wrong with our offensive philosophy. Bring him in for a couple of drives or don't play him. It's as simple as that.

Now, reasons to be happy.

1) Suh had one of the best games of his career, notching 4 1/2 sacks against the highly touted Texas offense that some had us giving up 40 points too.

2) Dejon Gomes is a phenomenal corner, so is Amukamara, and I'm so happy that Dillard played his butt off and had a fairly solid game. He missed some plays but made up for it with some even bigger plays. My hat is off to these 3 as well.

3) Momentum for next year. If I were a player, I would be extremely pissed off right now. Returning 10 of 11 starters offensively and quite a few start defensive players is going to bode well for us next year. We will be out for blood after suffering 3 of the closest and most heartbreaking losses I've seen in one year since being a Husker fan.

The refs had another bad call, which was calling that Texas player down at the 1-yard line. It evens out. :)

Theres nothing to be downplayed about our defensive performance tonight, it was simply outstanding. Nebraska has the best defense in the country. If the referreing (sp?) performance was one fifth as good as Nebraska's defense performance was, Nebraska wouldve won
