BTW, since it hasn't been mentioned in this thread: since the NCAA's 5-for-5 rule passed, Colandrea now has two years of eligibility remaining, instead of just one. So in 2027, there's a good chance we'll have Colandrea starting with Trae Taylor as backup (there's also no more redshirts).

I'm looking at some stats, and man, I knew Wisconsin's offense was bad, but I didn't realize just HOW bad. They were #135 out of 136 FBS teams in both total and scoring offense last year.

I'm kinda curious how Colton Joseph will fare at Wisconsin. Some were pointing to him as a good candidate for us before we signed Colandrea. He's #6 on that list, but he was also just placed at #6 in the country on this list of worst starting QBs, which called him a square peg in a round hole at Wisconsin.

After the Phil Longo tenure, I’m not sure Fickell has any idea what to do on offense. I think Joseph is talented, but high “square peg, we-don’t-know hole” risk

I am glad we have an older QB / transfer player as well. I am hopeful that Colandrea is here and ready to go.

You mention the past, but TJ doesn't fit blah blah blah. ?

TJ was a freshmen and 2 years younger than Dylan Raiola. Nobody can look at the scope of work from his playing time while getting thrown into a bad situation and say "this is what you were..., this is who you are".

Kid might be 10 lbs heavier, while physically and mentally maturing into a sophomore QB, with another year under DH. I would rather give the 4 star some cred.

If he doesn't get bigger physically for playing Big Ten football, or maturing, then that will be on him. I think Lateef can do it.

Colandrea is a few years older, wiser, around 22 years old, has the experience and is on his 3rd team in 4 years. Dude has been around the block. TJ was on campus one year ago.

After so many different styles and personalities of QB cycling through DoNU over the past few decades I now subscribe to the Mike Leech philosophy that you need to recruit for accuracy and decision making. Everything else can be taught or worked around, but a QB who can't be counted on to deliver the ball is going to hurt his team when it counts the most.

TJ does not fit the bill. He struggles placing the ball where it needs to be, and when his first read is not their his instinct is to play street ball and run around either making a play with his feet or hoping someone breaks open on a scramble drill.

I have yet to see a QB at Nebraska truly develop and improve into a top talent when things are said like; he needs to learn to go through his progression, he can't stare down his primary receiver, he needs to sit in the pocket, he needs to work on his delivery. Maybe TMart was the only guy that came close but he got hurt. You can say all those things about TJ, so I don't think there is much hope for him to be anything more than a backup change of pace type player.

At this point I wouldn't say anything that might make Trae Taylor think he's not starting immediately.

3T is enrolling in January. He’s already learning the playbook now. We’ll have a pretty good idea where it stands after spring ball next year. Presumably, if, he beats out a 5th yr sr at that point then why tf wouldn’t he start? He’s not been given, or demanded, anything he hasn’t earned to this point unlike Prince$$ mahomes lite

At this point I wouldn't say anything that might make Trae Taylor thing he's not starting immediately.

People that have spoken with his father say they are OK with him coming in and learning the ropes of the B1G his first year if that's the way it plays out. Having a freshman start in the B1G with no college experience is a big ask and probably not the best way to develop your QBs. Assuming AC is successful this year having TT learn behind a 5th year senior would seem ideal.

But an awful lot can happen between now and then.

I think it's rare to have a true freshman come in and light it up. Or win at a good clip. I'm hoping that whoever is the back up this year is ready. Prior to DR in 2024, It seems like we have not had a healthy starter make it through the whole season without missing a game or 2. Would like to get back to where we can truly develop players, get meaningful real game experience for backups and get to having quality 2 deep across every position (1a-1b) type of thing.

At the moment he's just making sure all the credits for his Communications major will transfer from UNLV to Nebraska, while getting to know his new academic professors to ensure he's on course for graduation.

I Agree with QB accuracy and Leach, 1 hundo percent.

Colandrea has quick feet, is speedy and has toughness running with the ball on pass plays that break down quickly - and that ought to help with the NU red-zone blues.

As long as DH doesn't get in the way (play calling).
