Any letdowns?

Well the first game is passed and done. I'm sure many of us had our own expectations for the game as far as what we wanted to see from the team as well as individually. I for one was excited to see the linebackers play. Strange as it may seem, they were pretty quiet all game. On the opening kickoff when Octavien delivered that insane hit on their kick returner, I about shat myself. That got me excited to see some hits from our linebackers...but like I said, there wasn't a lot of action for them. Octavien got me out of my seat with that hit and I wanted to see him shine in the rest of the game and that didn't happen. Kind of a letdown...anyone else have any others that you might share?

The defense didn't have many big plays in general, but as others have said, they were probally playing a base defense with little blitzes and a few breakdowns in their coverage.

Ruud was quoted in todays Journal Star as saying that La Tech passed and ran mostly to the TE side of the ball, which is the opposite side of the ball from He and Octaviens position. Said that they stayed away for the most part, limiting there ability to be around the ball and make plays. Sounded like they would have liked to make some plays, but the action was guided away from them.

Maybe that is why he didn't have any tackles in the game.

Dillard looked impressive with his four tackles on one series. Then the injury. I thought Stewart Bradley had a good hit in the first half. McKeon also had a good tackle crossing the field to take the WR Grixby had failed to tackle.

secondary makes me nervous. Those USC receivers will run wild, howevver if gain that many yards on the ground I think we win a lot of games

Kenny Wilson's sweet touchdown run that was called back. Little bit let down because of that.

The secondary was a let down for me. We all knew the issues back there, but I was hoping that it wouldn't be realized!!!! I was hoping it was just a lie!!!! However; we did have more good things than bad happen. :thumbs

You will see a lot of action from the LB's and Safeties against Nichols. The Option returns to Lincoln on Saturday.

The biggest letdown by far was our CBs. Andre Jones and Grixby did NOT make me feel safe about USC or Texas. It looks like this year opposing coaches will again be trying to pick on Grixby especially, because it works. I love Grix, but a shot of terror goes through me ever time the ball is thrown his way. Also, Jones didn't give up any HUGE plays, but his man was always open. He played way too soft on his defenders.

The pass rush was also a little dissappointing and I would like to see much more of Octavien. I still think he's the LB we've got.

Yess...the LaTech punting game needs work...

oh you mean a letdown in the Huskers???... :rollin

Kenny Wilson's TD run getting called back...

man did he get to the corner and down the sideline quickly... :horns2

haven't seen that in a few years...

otherwise a very good first game other then the injuries to Dillard and Fluellen...

we will just keep getting better and better...GBR :cheers

Jones will get better, he was naturally playing soft, to not give up the big play..you will see lots more of that this season......not his fault, still learning..Grix won't get any taller this season..........like i said, great kid, lots of heart, but will always be too short to effectively play the position....for a veteran, he will be burned often by USC, Texas and others....a match up with a tall WR will always be exploited....

move grix to nickel back and spain take over his position

grix wont stop anyone this year so burn this year developing someone that could be a threat by mid to late season. i am so sick of seeing #2
