Rumor: NU coach may be selected this weekend
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I'm hearing from people who operate behind the scenes -- way behind the scenes -- is that a legal arrangement to choose the new NU coach was recently solidified. It's a three-way deal involving BC, Paul Johnson from Navy, and Jim Grobe from Wake Forest.
Here's how it works: if NU wins this weekend, then BC stays alive as NU's coach -- at least for another week. Otherwise, BC gets his full buyout and the job immediately goes to the winner of this Saturday's Wake/Navy game. My source says that all three coaches have agreed to participate in the arrangement and have signed contracts to this effect.
The coaching changes would take effect immediately. The interesting twist is that if BC leaves, he and his staff will replace the newly departed coaches at Wake or Navy as the case may be.
If this rumor is true, it's a historical event. Apparently, this kind of conditional coaching switch deal (involving at least two games) has only happened six times in the history of college football.
What the hell is this some kind of joke you have got to be kidding me
