New Arizona Rattlers owner Ron Shurts plans to fill US Airways Center
"I had a conversation with the (league) commissioner the other day and he said, 'We've been around for 24 years, and we took one year off,' " Shurts said. "The reality of it was that they had to repackage the model."
Shurts plans to get word out quickly on the Rattlers and their great start.
"When you have people say, 'When does the season start?' you get a little concerned," Shurts said. "You'll see a lot of activity. There's a connection between where you're from to being here. We'll start having some theme nights. I'm a Husker (Nebraska Cornhuskers football). We're going to have a Husker Night. I got a call into (Nebraska coach Bo) Pelini. . . . We're going to have some different reasons for people to be here and show their enthusiasm. We're not trying to fight with your loyalty back home. But you're here. So support this thing.
"This market has shown it will support this team. It has and it will again. I will not be surprised if this arena is filled up."
