ASU's Stadium

If you want to talk about crowd noise, do you remember the 19-0 ambush by ASU in 1996? How can a stadium be lauder than that? The Huskers were very unprepared for it -- the crowd wouldn't let up a second. It was incredible!

I would think that almost any stadium would have been loud as hell if you had the BACK-TO-BACK national champs on the ropes and eventually beat them.

Speaking of that ASU game, this is a trivial pursuit question: What points, by ASU's offense, were scored in that game?

I refer to this game as the "Debacle in the Desert" and man I hate that game and any memory of it. Talk about lack of execution....The Huskers couldn't get anything offensively going in that game.

Am I recalling accurately that ASU's offense didn't score a touchdown in that game? I think that their defense scored the most points, including at least 2 safeties!

ASU - Poole 25 pass from Plummer (Nycz kick)

ASU - Safety, Green fumbled out of end zone

ASU - FG Nycz 27

ASU - Safety, ball snapped out of end zone

ASU - FG Nycz 44

ASU - Safety, Frost tackled in end zone

not to take anything away from the ASU offensive defense, but as i recall, those safeties were absolute GIFTS.

Please correct me if anyone remembers these differently:

"Green fumble"- wasn't that actually a bad option pitch by Frost?

And on the "ball snapped out of end zone", bad communication-- Frost was in shotgun formation and wasn't looking when the center (Treu?) snapped and the ball flew right past him.

you can't put all blame on one guy but Frost, whether he was nervous or unprepared or overwhelmed, was horrible in that game. -10 yards rushing?? in fairness, the usually good O-line didn't do much to help him out in that one though.

That game is also a credit to Frost, he could have packed it in the rest of the season or have never recovered his confidence. but instead, the scapegoat of the ASU game eventually turned out to be one heck of a Husker QB.

It could've been very different. by contrast, Daily had a horrible game vs SoMiss and never really recovered from it.

Unfortunately, I was there on the 20 yard line. It was indeed unbelievable. I've never seen Memorial Stadium come close to making that much noise for 3 hours straight. It was truly deafening at points. Definitely not a good feeling to be wearing red upon leaving Sun Devil Stadium. Of course, the ASU fans only come out and support their team like that once every 10 or 20 years so they had a lot of pent up screaming to let out.

Its been like that forever. Where ever Nebraska plays at the stadium is sold out and it is louder than normal.

Actually, the center for that game and most of the season was all american Aaron Taylor. The next year, they moved Taylor back to his original position at gaurd. Taylor was a great offensive lineman, but he wasn't very good at center.

The play where the ball was snapped through the endzone happened when Frost was checking the receivers. His head was faced toward his outside receiver when the ball was prematurely snapped.

The other thing to keep in mind about this game was the fact that Terrell Farley had been suspended prior to the game by TO due to his DD charge. I don't know if his play could have ignited anyting, but it sure couldn't have hurt.

It was a case of lining up a ringer before the team was ready. I have no doubt that we would have beat ASU that year if we'd have played them later in the year. However, maybe we still would have lost as we dropped the Texas game in the Big 12 championship game.
