At the end of the NW game, Beck considered using SJB at WR

Just read, per Beck, that SJB is getting some reps at receiver for the 2 minute drill. Fish said last weeks game really taxed the receivers, really running low on guys to sub in. Zo was running plays he didn't even know. Glad Fish has developed what he has. Never would have thought we would be down 3 already in Bell, JT and Wull hanging up the cleats. IIRC, both Bell (groin) and JT did practice.

EDIT - The above statement is derived from THIS ARTICLE, which states that at the end of the game when Nebraska's available WRs were tired, Tim Beck considered using Stanley at WR. - knapplc

That's interesting to say the least, but hey, at least Fisher wants to put the best players with hands on the field, when we need them. This says a lot about him, and his coaching. I really hope this guy is here for the long run. His hard work shows on the field, for the most part, and recruiting. SJB does have the best hands in our secondary though, at least I believe so lol.

That would be awesome to have him going 2 ways against Michigan. A pick-6 and a receiving TD and then mouthing to the camera "Charles Who-dson?"

Don't forget that Taariq Allen still hasn't fully recovered from the ACL tear apparently. He's missed as well.

I love tall receivers with good hands. Guy is a freak of nature. I don't know how much time he'll get though since it only mentions 'the 2 minute drill' above.

Good call. I actually forgot about him. Hope he can recover 100%. I know they mentioned that it was almost "career ending" a lot more severe than reported.

Seems kind of silly to me. If you asked me what position we were deep at, wide receiver would be towards the top. Bell and Turner are dinged up, but we still have Quincy, Zo and Westerkamp (who should both be pretty fresh), Burtch, and I think Brandon Reilly could realistically contribute as well. To me, the only way I could see justifying taking defensive reps away would be if SJB is such a freak that he could add something we don't have, which he very well could be.

Maybe he gets a Medical Hardship, and stays another year. I wouldn't mind it, since we really don't have proven young receivers, except for Moore and Westerkamp.

Its a 2 minute drill, not the whole game. We aren't really that deep, if you can name 4 receivers, with Reilly being unproven.

Wont be no hardship for Allen. He's been participating on kickoff team pretty exclusively since the start of the year.
Really? I have yet to see him on the field, but I guess if true, no hardship

I get what you're saying, but I think the opposite is true - we have depth at receiver maybe more than at any other position on the field. Saturday proved it.

At many other positions we have a lot of bodies. Guys who can go in and occupy space or give the opponent someone to notice.

At WR, with Kenny and Jamal KO'd for most or all of the Northwestern game, we had guys step up and execute (to use a Bo-ism). Guys who actually won us the game.

Lots of us said before the season (maybe you, too) that we probably have the best top-to-bottom WR corps in the Big Ten. Take away our top TE and two of our top three WRs - hell, take away the guy who threw for 2,900 yards last year - and still we move the ball down the field and (cringe) execute a Hail Mary to win the game after the gun sounds. At this instant we are not deep at WR. But as soon as Kenny and Jamal are back, we're back to nearly full strength.

And I sure as hell wouldn't want to be the DC having to figure out how to cover Quincy Enunwa, Jamal Turner, Kenny Bell, Jordan Westerkampstache, Alonzo Moore and Sam Burtch, on a rotation, all game long.

knapp, my comment on not being that deep, is as of now. Of course we are deep, if we are fully healthy, but like you said, at this point we are not. That is what I was insinuating lol. Healthy, we have the best receiving corps and depth in the nation.

Turner didn't practice but Bell did. Also, Jake Long was back at practice and expects to play.
