At what point do we stop bringing up Bo to defend Riley?

Yes. I don't think they realize that Pelini forced Eichorst to fire him, so he could leave with his paycheck, which makes it a real head scratcher to me. Bo got what he wanted, and if he didn't, then we are stuck with a coach figuring out how he gets fired THIS year.

The bone I pick on these threads is that Pelini brought out the worst in a lot of "College Football's Greatest Fans", belying that self awarded title. These are the ones who are suffering the additional pain and anguish in that they can't use a 3-0 Riley record to pummel real or imagined adversaries in their scorched earth policy...and yes, I give them the needle when the chance presents itself.

Not necessarily disagreeing with the body of your post, but the red bolded above is just not true. SP did that, not one Nebraska fan was responsible for the sign in Memorial Stadium. Do many NU fans share that sentiment, sure, but then it's pretty obvious that NU fans ARE different in the way they treat opposing players and fans.

No, just the ones whose team get booed by "College Footballs Greatest Fans!". So to more completely answer the question, it wasn't the boorish behavior, but maybe the hypocrisy that probably put Pelini over the edge. I'm sure Pelini heard a lot of boos in the Rust Belt, hardscrabble towns of Ohio, but they never claimed to be "so gosh darned nice!"

bo was also too god damned ignorant and stupid to see that -GASP- all them boos came from a whole 5-10% of the fanbase. And the bullsh#t going on around here now shows that even then he had a pretty high degree of support. But hes a guy that dwells on negatives and is hypersensitive to criticism. Two really bad traits of the coaching profession. Thats why his FCS now. And when he fails there hell be back to NAIA. And im not sure hes even qualified for that. Hes just not head coach material.

He's at FCS now because he turned down all these offers from other big time programs who would've paid him big time money, so he could go back to his hometown. He was happy with his severance pay from Nebraska. He didn't want a job that would have paid him another big chunk of money on top of that. Bo is a highly competitive guy, that's why he wanted to drop to the elite level of football at YSU. He's one of the only coaches ever to win 9 games a year for blah blah blah, but he didn't want a big time gig, even though there were a bunch of big time programs beating down his door. There were too, don't question it. I know it's strange that we didn't really hear his name brought up in a bunch of big time coaching searches, you know, with his immaculate resume', but trust me, everybody wanted this guy. He just chose Youngstown Ohio cause it's so awesome.

You obviously have your opinion on the situation, and I won't be able to dissuade you from it, but I would like to point out that people are hypocrites all the time. You, me, and not surprisingly, even fan(atics). Oh, and Bo himself. However, that doesn't give one carte blanche. It doesn't mean you can slam the very program that gave you an opportunity or its fans that show up for every game. If you do, well...you might get fired.

Good point...and makes it only worse when NU's own coaches and players get boos and their opponents get the cheers in some instances. How much of this applauding the other side is a self aggrandizing thing and tradition or if it is really sincere, everybody has to answer for themselves.

This seems like a good place to leave the subject and this thread.

I'm trying to think of a time watching football where a coach decides to not make any attempt at getting points before half when down and there aren't some boos coming out.

For a guy who adamently denied listening to or reading the media, he was constantly complaining about it and reacting to it. Too bad he didn't spend more of his time and energy managing the program and getting the team ready.

The same could be said about Riley. There is something nice about being home and being comfortable.

I think a lot of it was Pelini stickin' it to Nebraska one more time. Any salary he gets SUBTRACTS from the amount Nebraska owes him. He didn't even look for a P5 job (not that he could've gotten one anyway) because that would have just lowered Nebraska's payout.

I heard that was his plan all along. He never really even wanted to coach at a Big time program, he just wanted to trick them into giving him a big contract then firing him so he could go back to his hometown.
