B1G Coaches Salary per Win

NJ.com looked at the B1G coaches in cost per win. Probably more interesting at the end of they year but here's what they have so far this year.

At a cursory glance, it would appear the lower cost per win coaches are the lower paid and/or they are having better than usual seasons. On the higher end it is the opposite, higher paid coaches and/or worse seasons than gypical. Don't see any real shockers here.

Pelini has the highest base salary in the B1G at $3,075,000. LINK Urban Meyer, who makes $4,558,000 per year in salary and incentives, only has a base salary of $808,000. The next highest base salary is Dantonio at $2,000,000 (out of $3,286,000 salary and incentives). I wonder why we structured Pelini's whole contract as base salary? Nobody else in the B1G did it that way.

I've argued for years with Iowa fans that they're paying top coach money for a average football coach. He's average, vanilla and safe to a fault, and makes way too much money for what he's done. Fine by me, keep on keeping on Coach Ferentz.

I'd like to see what incentives Urban has to go from 800k to 4.5M. Urban has no conference titles, no BCS bowl wins at OSU, etc. He has been very good but doesn't have the measurables typically required for incentives.

That link is also a little confusing. It lists 2014 guaranteed money for Urban at 4.5M, but his base is 800k. If he is guaranteed the money is it really different than base? It appears like Bo's contract is more straightforward without knowing the details of the contracts.

Spent some time on the website and found the true incentives. It's all smoke and mirrors to imply that Urban is incentivised to perform better with his contract structure.

• academic or off field incentives: if four-year average graduation rate is greater than or equal to the student body: $25,000

  950 or higher: $25,000

• URBAN - INCENTIVES
• contractual raises: $108,000 in March 2013.
  
• additional guaranteed annual compensation: $1,850,000 per year for media
