Back from Boulder

HuskersGJ

Special Teams Player
Just returned to western colorado a couple hours ago after spending most of Friday and Saturday in Boulder and Denver respectively.

My father and I, along with a couple friends, got tickets to the game before the season started. I must confess by the Thursday before the game i was NOT looking forward to it. I didn't think we had a chance to win but the main reason i dreaded going was having to deal with CU fans during a loss.

In retrospect: damn i'm glad i got to see this one in person!!

Random Fan Notes:

Our seats were about 70 rows up on the 45 yard line (nose bleed but a great view of the field!).

In general, we didn't really get too much BS from the CU fans in our area. There was one guy behind us that kept yapping his mouth about Nebraska with the usual Buff garbage- but even his Buff buddies seemed to be ignoring him. At one point, looking at the red visitor's section, my father said something about how neat it would be if we turned Folsom RED like we did to Notre Dame. The said idiot behind us was apparently listening in (from 3 or 4 rows back) and yelled out "GET OVER IT! You're Here, Not There!". I still don't get why a CU fan would even care about that enough to make a comment... A closet Notre Damer maybe...? or just an excuse to say something and be an @$$? thankfully he had shut up by half time and left the game by the end of the 3rd Q.

--Later, after CU got a personal foul for smacking Taylor on a time out, a "fan" threw one of the stupid little yellow shakers at us. typical.

--I don't know about the stadium as a whole but the CU fans in our section (those that were still left) were booing the students even before the refs made any announcements. later most of them voiced approval when the refs ordered those sections emptied.

--The Husker section was small in comparison but LOUD. The stadium rattled with sounds of HUSKER....POWER. I was able to get a little digital camera video of it from the other side of the stadium but i don't know if it captured the sound very well.

--We made our way down the the Husker section with 4 minutes left to join our fellow Red-Clad fans. the players walked over and I assume Ross was near (i couldn't see much) b/c the crowd began chanting "CORY CORY...".

--As is the new "tradition", the team sang "There Is No Place Like Nebraska". and as they headed to the locker room, a few joined the fans in the stands and most were more than happy to hand out a few high fives.

--I caught a glimpse of BC walking through and he looked like he was on cloud 9, he had a huge smile and a couple coaches, also smiling had their arms around him.

--Many from the Husker section followed the band out of the stadium, still chanting HUSKER..POWER and GO BIG RED.

--From their front yard, a couple CU students called out "Yeah, now you have to go back to Nebraska, that sucks." Apparently that was the best they could do... that sucks.

--On a good CU fan note (amazing, i know): on two different occasions outside the stadium, female CU students sincerely congratulated us on the win. so maybe its just the CU guys with an idiocy problem...or maybe just coincidence.

--Listening to "Buff Talk" (or whatever) on the way to Denver was highly amusing. Buff fans calling for Barnett's head, whining about the fan behavior, even sucking it up and offering congrats to Nebraska and BC. One caller sarcastically "thanked" KOA for playing anti-Nebraska commercials all week b/c it was now flying "back in our (CU's) faces".

--Way later, in Denver at the hotel, still wearing our Husker apparell... In the elevator an older couple asked us what the final score was. When we told them their faces lit up and they said "Good!". as an explanation to their reaction they said "We really hate CU".

I understand your apprehension going to the game. That was a great game to behold on tv. I bet it was that much better in person. Glad you made it out alive. I was concerned for our fans after seeing the nature of the CU fans that night.

hey as long you guys had a good time thats all that matters but i have to agree with you and will be honest going into the game did i think that we would win no, and with the first play that the bluffs did with the 45 yard run, man i thought we would have been in for a long day but "THE COZ" put together a perfect defensive plan and put it to the bluffs

Thanks for the first hand "insider" on the game and events that surrounded it.

The comment by the elderly couple in the elevator is classic! :thumbs

I'd be interested in getting a copy of that vid you took of the chanting Husker Fans.

PM me and I'll forward you my e-mail.
