This is from omaha.com (http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=3918&u_sid=10396039). I sure hope our backup QBs get some playing time soon before the meat of the season gets here...
Big Red Today
2:15 p.m.: To update the situation discussed below, Shawn Watson offered some insight Wednesday into his thinking on the readiness of backups Patrick Witt and Zac Lee at quarterback.
“You’ve got to earn it,” said Watson, the NU offensive coordinator. “I’m not going to give it to you.”
Apparently, that “earn it” attitude coach Bo Pelini has taken with the Blackshirts will also apply to other areas of the team.
Watson described his approach as one of “tough love” with Witt, the redshirt freshman who serves as the top reserve behind Ganz.
As for Ganz, Watson was gushing. “I’m going to honest with you, I graded that first half and he was spectacular,” said Watson, who calls Nebraska’s plays from the press box. “He’s not good; he’s spectacular. He did a lot of things that you have to be inside our system to understand and know what he did.
“He’s managing a beautiful ballgame.”
Ganz, in the first half, completed 16 of 23 throws for 230 yards and three touchdowns. Both of his interceptions occurred in the fourth quarter. — Mitch Sherman

7:45 a.m.: The combination of Nebraska being a decent-sized favorite and playing at home for each of the next two Saturdays might present a good opportunity to play a backup quarterback.
The Huskers were unable to get it done last Saturday, going with senior Joe Ganz the whole way. Ganz completed 20 of 36 passes for 345 yards and four touchdowns.
But, sooner or later, Patrick Witt or Zac Lee is going to need some work. Neither has played in an NCAA Division I-A game.
If NU doesn't play either one or both backups against San Jose State or New Mexico State, there might not be any time available the following three games as the Huskers play Virginia Tech, Missouri and Texas Tech.
