Chicago, IL -- When Matthew McBean arrived at the Bartlett police station to report stolen jewelry, he didn’t expect to also be charged with a crime.
McBean, 37, of 636 Philip Court in Bartlett, was arrested and charged Saturday with one misdemeanor count of soliciting a prostitute, Bartlett police said Monday.
Susan Byrd, 24, of 1014 N. Hamlin Ave. in Chicago was charged with one misdemeanor count of prostitution, they said.
After McBean came to police at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police investigated the nature of his relationship with Byrd and learned he had contacted her through an escort service, police said.
McBean had allegedly paid for sexual services at the Philip Court address on March 24, police said.
Byrd told police the jewelry was part of her payment arrangement with McBean, police said.
Both people were released on bond, and both have a May 3 court date at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows, police said.
