A story about McMullen not wearing his blackshirt to practice a few weeks ago gets some light shed:

McMullen essentially stripped himself of the jersey of distinction -- apparently because he felt he was falling short of the standard. Banker wasn't thrilled that McMullen made such a decision on his own.

"I told him, 'First of all, you don't make that decision. It's your responsibility to play well. We, as coaches, make the decision that you're a Blackshirt. We don't do that s--- around here. So get in there (the locker room) and play like you deserve to have one,''" Banker said. "Guess what, the last two weeks he's played his a$$ off."
Love it. Love a redemption story for a player who has taken some heat for his play this season.

So you're telling me he's not throwing games?

That is how this thing is supposed to be handled. Nice job Banker.
Exactly. It's the starters. Regardless of performance. We have just been spoiled with some seriously good defense in the past. I like the fact Banker gets this. I like the fact he is going to allow the players to dictate tradition or do their "own thing". He might have issues with his scheme, but sure as hell gets "it".

I love that whole approach from the staff. Perfect. There's probably more stories like this behind the scenes, but this is just one example of what the experience and knowledge of this staff can do here. I could'nt imagine a better way of handling it. Don't let the player hang their head and stay down, and don't try to find someone to blame. No excuses. Pure and simple, get out there and play like you deserve to be part of this tradition.

Keep grinding. Huge respect to McMullen for stepping it up, and great coaching job by Banker.

Glad to see McMullen coming around. A lot of us were expecting big things from him this year.

I'll be gall damned. I was right.

And I too have like him at DT. However, against teams that run the ball and we are in a running down he does the best job setting the edge when at DE. Good run DE and good pass DT.
