Barry Switzer on NU

Guy I work with was listening to the Barry Switzer show last night and he said Barry strongly believes NU will be the force to reckon with in the North for the next few years. He also believes NU and OU will continue to meet up in the CCG for the next few years.

why is it barry never got back into coaching???
he's been there, he's done that.

after a couple on national championships and years with the cowboys, he's pretty much lived both lives and he figured that's enough.

besides, right now OU treats him as the respected honored statesman of sooner football and still does a bit for the university. i doubt he really wants to leave that comfort zone.

I think Switzer is on to something. OU and NU are both very young teams for the most part. Texas will definitely be in there, but NU is head and shoulders above all in the North at this point. We all know how quickly that can change, though.

This kind of surpirses me about BS. When I saw him interviewed in the booth at the NU/OU game in 2004, he was with TO. He was asked what he thought about the WCO and BC. He was less than flattering saying that until BC could hang "half a hundred" like TO used to do, then he wasn't going to be impressed.

Maybe he's a WCO convert now. Of course, he was wishbone all the way and now he sees the advancement of OU with a more wide open offense.

Hey, maybe even old dogs can learn new tricks. :bonez

I was thinking the same thing Syzygyone. I remember the Callahan haters using Switzer's expert opinion as a way of saying that the WCO would never work in the college game.

I agree, NU and OU will be two of the top teams, though I am not going to count Texas out. Colt is a good QB and will only get better and better, no matter sick everyone is of hearing about him.

What was funny about the "WCO won't work in college" people is that the WCO is built totally around being adaptable. You can do mostly run, you can do most pass, you can do a balance, etc. So from a pure fundamentals aspect, it's perfect.

That only leaves how complex it is and asking college students to learn it. Well as far as intelligence goes, I can promise you NFL players are not any smarter than when they were in college, so that's not a problem. That leaves the amount of time college students have to learn such things and well...we'd be lying to ourselves if we didn't admit that when you're on a I-A football scholarship, you find the time to learn what you have to for the team.

perhaps, but experience in learning new systems and being experienced in transitions helps a lot.

I think what hurt us the first year with the understanding of the WCO was that the coaches were the only ones that knew the offense and even some of them were not familiar with it. While now, the upper classmen can help the younger players with the learning curve and give them some helpful hints to pick up the offense.

You made an excellent point, EbylHusker. Remember Colorado in 2001? The Buffs ran the ball about 80 percent of the time in the WCO. With the right talent, you can practically taylor the offense into anything you want.

I don't know why some anti WCO people are making such a big deal about the offense. All I can say is USC, USC, USC.

:yeah And with Callahan and co. bringing in talent year after year, this is only going to get better imo

Barry Switzer has a Show?

.

.

The thing that most concerns me about the WCO is what would happen if Zac was suddenly knocked out of the game? :ahhhhhhhh
