Big 12 North- are we behind?

From Foxsports.com:

"After last week, both the Buffs and Wildcats look better off in Year 2 of their regime changes than Nebraska does in Year 4 under Bill Callahan. While the Cornhuskers have been exposed defensively, Colorado and Kansas State both boast top-15 defenses and each has faced a tougher schedule than either Oklahoma or Kansas, the two Big 12 schools topping them in total yards allowed."

Interesting read, just wondered what everyone else thinks about this...

I think our defense has sucked, and both CU and KSU are improved. But I do think our defense will continue improve as the season goes on, which basically nobody outside of Nebraska agrees with. Not too many in Nebraska either. So all these predictions of Nebraska getting blown out because of terrible defense are probably missing the mark, imo.

Our game against missery will show us how far we have come as a team. I like our chances of showing everyone that we can play a physical game and control the game. This missery offense is explosive and what a chance for the Blackshirts to step up and play up to their ability.

They may well be quite right. I am certain that Hawkins is a vastly superior coach than Callahan. Now, Hawkins is perhaps not an elite coach (though in due course he may become one), but he is already well above average and is arguably quite good. Prince? I do not know. I do not like him personally --- but he may well be a good coach --- time will tell.

But the statement that Colorado and KState are better than Nebraska (which may or may not be true) --- is itself quite revealing in that there is no comparison between the talent levels at these three schools --- NU is superior in that area. That the question is even being raised is testimony of what Callahan and company have (or have not) done. If Hawkins and Prince are getting better performance (or even comparable) from inferior athletes then the crosshairs are pointing squarely at the NU coaches.

I pretty much agree with everything you just said. Hawkins is a proven winner. Prince? Bill Snyder hand selected him, so he must have done something to impress. I read an article where he made all of his coaches run alongside the players when practice wasn't going so well. This would have been okay in my mind if he was running also, but his fatass was standing there watching. I don't really care for him either, but I will say that so far he's done one heck of a job down there. Morale was pretty low Snyder's last year coaching at KState.

I agree that CU and KState don't have near the talent as NU, but there are several apologists on here that will tell you CU and KState both have just as good if not better talent than NU. They'll even say KU and Mizzou have as much talent as NU. The problem with inferring that the rest of the Big 12 has as much talent as NU means that BC isn't getting the job done recruiting then either. You can't have your cake and eat it to on this debate. Either we're getting the talent, but these coaches just aren't getting the coaching done. Or, we're not getting great talent and rivals and everyone is just lying to us! Prince and Hawkins are a lot better motivators than BC and clan!
