Big Suh presser @ NFL Combine

A few comments from the presser.

-- Said the reason why he quit soccer for football was because he was getting too many red cards.

-- One journalist remarked that Suh's presser rivaled that of Tebow. Said Suh is probably the biggest draw at the combine this year.

-- Several others commented that Suh was well-spoken and overall an impressive man during the presser. Poised, intense, confident were some of the words used to describe him.

-- Suh has met with the Lions staff and even had brunch with them today. He hasn't met with the Rams or Bucs yet.

-- Says he's been as big as 330 and as small as 290 pounds, but he prefers to play between 295 and 300 pounds.

-- Suh credits his soccer days for helping him with his footwork and conditioning.

-- Is ready to be the face of a franchise in the NFL, because he thinks that's what he was at Nebraska.

-- As a former soccer player, Suh was asked would he kick FG in the NFL, to which he replied, "I've done it before. Why not?"

INDIANAPOLIS -- Potential No. 1 overall draft choice Ndamukong Suh is taking his turn with reporters at the NFL combine. The question he's getting most frequently from the media -- and from NFL teams -- concerns how well he might function as a pass-rusher after focusing more on team defense at Nebraska.
Suh said he has not yet spoken with the Rams, but there is obviously still time for that. He is handling the media spotlight comfortably even though he said the intensity of interest stood out as the biggest surprise of his combine experience to this point.

INDIANAPOLIS – Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has talked to only one team so far at the NFL scouting combine: the Detroit Lions. And he’s talked to them twice.

Suh, whom the Lions could draft No. 2 overall April 22, had brunch with Lions officials Friday, then a meeting with them at 10 p.m. He said he went over X’s and O’s with defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham and assistant defensive line coach Kris Kocurek, who is expected to be the defensive line coach upon Bob Karmelowicz’s retirement.

The Lions’ main question was whether Suh can play the run on the way to the quarterback, because the Cornhuskers asked him to do things differently.

“I think I would be able to adjust to anything,” Suh said. “Obviously, I think our scheme was a little bit different at Nebraska from what the NFL’s asking me to do, but I think I’m a player that can adjust to things and definitely get used to playing and getting off the ball and more or less not reading and reacting as we were kind of taught down in our defense at Nebraska.”

Suh has not talked to St. Louis or Tampa Bay yet, but said he was scheduled to meet with four teams tonight.

Via Twitter, Darnell Dockett had a plea for Nebraska defensive tackle (and certain top three pick) Ndamukong Suh today in two parts.
“Dear Ndamukong Suh I know u might be the 1st pick but can u whine like eli manning and go to another team like the cardinals”

“If u wait till we pic ill make sure u with us, me and u will dominate together something serious, thx NINE-0 –please fwd to SUH”

I’m not sure Suh would fall all the way to No. 26, but Dockett is at least efforting.

Ha, that's great! I don't know that I've ever heard so many players complimenting and name dropping another player before he's even played a down in the NFL. Steven Jackson said on First Take that if he had the choice he would trade the pick for the value or take Suh. I'm glad to see that it's not just the media and us fans that are excited about Ndamukong's future, because the greatest rewards are often the respect and admiration of your peers.
Josh Freeman wants him to be a Buccaneer.

“I would love to see Suh here,’’ Freeman said.

The Bucs would be wise to listen to Freeman’s thoughts on Suh because their quarterback knows the defensive tackle very well. They first became friends as teammates in a high-school all-star game, saw each other frequently as college foes and were hanging out together at the Super Bowl in Miami a few weeks ago.

“He basically lived in my backfield every time I played against Nebraska,’’ said Freeman, who played at Kansas State. “The drive that that guy has is unbelievable. He’s going to be a great teammate for whoever he goes to. The guy makes plays. He gets in the backfield and nobody can block him. They’re trying to figure out what’s going to help our team the most. If it’s a receiver, it’s a receiver. If it’s get Suh, it’s getting Suh. Anyway you look at it, I’m excited.’’

Nebraska DT Ndamukong Suh put up 32 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press Sunday at the Combine.Suh bettered Oklahoma's Gerald McCoy (26). Though Suh was much more productive in college, McCoy is considered the superior pass rusher. Other notable bench press totals: Michigan DE Brandon Graham (31), Ohio State DE/OLB Thaddeus Gibson (32), and USC DE Everson Griffen (32). Alabama NT Terrence Cody and Georgia Tech DE Derrick Morgan decided not to lift.

Why am I not surprised that Mt Cody didnt decide to lift anything other than his fat a$$ off the couch for another round of yumburgers.

Can someone tell me why some of the scouts think McCoy is better than Suh? I don't remember seeing any tape of McCoy fighting through triple teams and making the plays that Suh did so consistently. Oh well. Let them think what they want. I can't wait to see where Suh lands...

It is called "self preservation" lol.

Not kidding - I'm almost 40 and I weigh over 300lbs and I can jump higher than McCoy. 30.5 inches and 23 reps from a guy who's supposed to be a "better athlete" than Suh is laughable.

im going to have to see some video...running and jumping over something 30 inches high is a lot different than straight going vertical 30 inches...bending your legs doesnt let you count the air your feet and the ground it creates, ya know.

and be careful with the bench rep thing...its a lot like that gauntlet drill they make receivers do. How many times is one of these guys going to have a play that lasts several minutes so they can push out 225lbs of anything repeatedly? Dont get me wrong, I think McCoy is a puss compared to our Suh, but still.

one last thing--anyone see Bosworths LB nephew? I felt sorry for the kid, you know everyone is discounting everything he does. Even the announcers were hesitant and stumbled over what to say about him, like he was a plague.
