Bill O'Brien looks back on Super Bowl

As some of you may know, the Pats are my hometeam (although I've left the NE area for school), so this was an interesting (if brief) interview with the recently departed offensive coordinator, Bill O'Brien, now head coach at Penn State.

He talks about the Welker 'drop':

Did Welker get more grief than he deserved?

"Definitely," O'Brien said sternly after an event this morning in Newport, R.I.

"That wasn’t a drop. That would have been a tremendous catch, and he should never think twice about that. And it had nothing to do with us losing the game. There were many, many plays before that where we could have made better coaching decisions, and better plays. That’s just one play of many."

And the biggest playcall he'd like to have back:

"Probably the first play of the game, call a different play," he said of the safety Brady took that put the defense right back on the field. "But it was a play that we worked on that we felt like was going to be a good play, so hindsight is definitely 20-20."

I read this a little while ago and definitely disagree. Welker's drop was more than catchable. It's one that a professional WR should catch 100% of the time. Branch's drop was much worse, but Welker still should have caught that ball.
