Wondering why Nebraska's new group of Blackshirts does not include a free safety?
Secondary coach Marvin Sanders said he's still evaluating the play of juniors Rickey Thenarse and Matt O'Hanlon. Thenarse, injured early in the season, earned a start last week against Kansas and split snaps with O'Hanlon.
They graded out evenly, Sanders said, after O'Hanlon collected seven tackles to Thenarse's two.
"It was unfair to either one to give (a Blackshirt) to the other," Sanders said, "so I wanted this to continue on and see what happens this week."
Sanders said he's pleased with the progress of Thenarse, a former top recruit out of Los Angeles, and O'Hanlon, the former walk-on from Bellevue East.
"Maybe both of them deserve it," the coach said. "Maybe one of them deserves it. The thing I enjoy about that position is there's great competition. I think they look at in a positive way."
