Bo: Offense will be "Very basic."

International Man of Mystery
No surprise here.
Nebraska isn't going to show much offensively in Saturday's Red-White Game, Husker head coach Bo Pelini said after Wednesday's practice.

"We're going to be very basic on both sides of the football, and just let our guys play," he said.

He said the Spring Game is neither the time nor place to unveil changes.

Husker quarterback Taylor Martinez, who received limited repetitions in this past Saturday's scrimmage because of a toe injury, will be ready for the Red-White scrimmage. However, how much he participates "depends on how he feels," said Pelini, saying Martinez could be "fairly limited."

Martinez has said he occasionally feels twinges of pain in the ankle he injured last season.

"He's not real limited (by injury) right now, but we're going to limit him on Saturday," Pelini said.

I'm glad we'll (apparently) get to see a lot of Carnes. After hearing so much about the guy I am ready to see him in pads, in any capacity.

It'll be interesting to see the 2011 version of Cody Green. I hope he gets to run several series. 2010 Spring Game Cody Green was noticeably improved over 2009 raw Freshman Cody Green. I'd like to see that development continue.

I've also heard that the players will be picking teams. Not sure if I already posted that or not.

I'm hoping wtih a "more basic offense", maybe T-Mart won't look at times like he's completely overwhelmed.

If it is going to be very basic, then why aren't we showing TV? It's not like we are going to be running any plays that coaches haven't seen before. I'm going to the game so it doesn't really matter to me, but it would give us more publicity.

It's probably been said before, but I think Tmart's problem last year was the READ portion of the zone read, and subsequently a ton of plays got blown up in the backfield. Of course, it didn't help that our O-Line allowed seemingly total penetration at weird, random times. They can dominate, but they're not very good at doing it consistently. They take a lot of plays off, and it showed.

Anyway, then we get to third and long, and it was easy to see why an excited, nervous freshman QB couldn't make some money throws to receivers who were coached to place blocking above all else and probably far undershot their potential accordingly.

Sorry, my personal breakdown of our offense when it sucked last year. Keep in mind there were times it didn't completely suck.

This is the building block that built this great program, completely absent in the last decade with horrific results.

Spring games before Pelini = LAME x 1,000,000 :ahhhhhhhh

Spring games with Pelini = LAME x Infinity :madash

Why anyone pays to go see that vanilla crap is beyond me. :dunno To each their own I guess.

I can’t wait until Saturday night to see what 3rd stringer that will never see any real playing time gets the masses chubbing. :leghump: :leghump: :leghump:

There was an article on rivals the other day that said there will be captains picking squads this year, similar to how the teams were made last year.

I'm excited about Cody Green as well. He's probably the one player I'm most excited to see this spring.

What benefit do you get in crapping on the interest of others? I'm curious.

It's not like it's expensive. I daresay there are things you spend your money on that other people might find stupid or a waste of time.

Plus, it's a cheap way to have fun with family and friends. I get my ticket for free because I'm a student and I'm doing coverage over it, but still. Most people has a good time even if it is only a practice.

I go because it's an affordable way to take my kids (4 and 1.5) to a game since they usually want to bolt by halftime anyhow (at least my 4 year old has been that way every year.....didn't take the newbie last year).

Not really having any other sport that interests me..This is a long off-season.

I'd watch the neighbor girl play smear the queer with her little brother if there was a football involved.
