Bo Pelini quote in Cleveland Plain Dealer on Big 10 expansion

"Obviously, the Big Ten has a lot of things going for it," Nebraska football coach, and Ohio State grad, Bo Pelini said. "The Big Ten Network is huge. There are tremendous institutions. They compete not only athletically but also academically. I think it's the right time. They've looked at expansion, and it seems like that's the way it's going to go. Because of all the things the Big Ten brings to the table, they can attract some quality schools to join the conference."

I think it's pretty easy to attribute Bo's "I think it's the right time" comment to the right time for the Big 10 to expand, not necessarily the right time for Nebraska to join.

It could, but that's unlikely. Bo's savvy enough to know that a comment made to an Ohio paper will come right back to Nebraska and blow up on him if it's not that PC-Coachspeak they all have to do these days.

I'd say it's 95/5 in favor of Bo talking about the Big 10, not about Nebraska.

I think the journalist did Bo a disservice by not putting that quote in better context, though. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't intentionally left open like that to fuel speculation. It sells papers.

He obviously meant that line to apply to the Big 10, not Nebraska, but I think the subtext is that it isn't just the right time to expand in general, but also the right time to look at adding certain particular schools, hint hint.
