According to the Travis County Sheriff's Office, Tyrell Gatewood was arrested early Thursday morning for possession of a "dangerous drug."
Texas safety Tyrell Gatewood was arrested was arrested early Thursday morning on three misdemeanor's, including two counts of misdemeanor drug possession, according to the Travis County Sheriff's office. Gatewood was booked at 12:36 a.m. No details on the drugs have been released. Bond is set a $5,500.
This isn't Gatewood's first run-in with the law. On September 4th, 2006, Gatewood, now-San Francisco 49ers and then-Longhorn cornerback Tarell Brown and former Texas linebacker Aaron Harris were arrested. Harris was driving Gatewood's car and, according to the probable cause affidavit, both Gatewood and Brown were asleep in the car at the time of the arrest. Harris admitted the marijuana was his and had been smoking marijuana. Both Gatewood and Brown tested negative and the charges were dropped, but each served a one-game suspension, sitting out Texas' loss to Ohio State.
Originally a wide receiver at Texas, Gatewood moved to safety and has primarily been a special teams player for the Longhorns. He practiced at wide receiver some during fall camp due to the injuries to receivers Limas Sweed, Jordan Shipley and Billy Pittman. Gatewood has two tackles this season.
