Five Husker football coaches have recently signed contract extensions that, in a couple of cases, also include salary increases, as Nebraska is set to again pay six assistants at least $400,000 a year.

Linebackers coach Trent Bray, defensive line coach John Parrella, wide receivers coach Keith Williams, offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh and running backs coach Reggie Davis all have updated deals that now run through Jan. 31, 2019, according to contracts received by the Journal Star upon request.

For the second straight year, Bray also received a significant salary hike with his new contract, which was signed Feb. 1. He is scheduled to earn $400,000 this year and $425,000 in 2018. He was set to make $325,000 this year under his previous contract.

...

Parrella's new contract also includes a raise. Having just finished his first season coaching at his alma mater, he will make $272,500. He was at $250,000 last year.

Cavanaugh's salary remains at $450,000 a year, with Keith Williams at $400,000 and Davis at $350,000.

Parrella's raise is more than I made last year...

The arms race of college football coaches salaries is out of control.

Cav being paid more than KW is very odd IMO. Is that just a natural thing? OL coaches paid more or what?

I think it was probably more based on experience in a P5 position. I have no doubt KW will soon make what he's worth but he also came in with a few red flags on him.

Length of time coaching has to play into that quite a bit. Experience in any profession gets you a little leg up on salary.

I think the whole DUI thing might have hurt him. Still not sold on Cav, next year will be telling. In 2015 the LB's were a strength of the team, 2016 stepped back IMO. And 2015 we had so many injuries....odd. I am anxious to see how well they (he) does in a 3-4 where we need athletes in the second level.

Yup, I love Cav.

I think Bray is a young coach who will inevitably get a better opportunity elsewhere at some point. Seems like he can afford to be very, very choosy about it though

Good for him, and it may well keep him at NU longer.

Contrary to what a majority of Husker fans think, Cav is a good Oline coach.
I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.

This year, according to @Saunders45 he has 17 scholarship OL to work with.

If he can't field an excellent OL, even with injuries, then we need to consider a new OL coach.

Building the roster for 2 years, 3 recruiting classes, time for this "crop" to be harvested.

No more excuse for poor play along the OL.

He's given nothing in his time here to show that. I think he's done a solid job recruiting, but there has to be improvement this year.
I personally wouldn't saying "nothing," but I do agree he's got to make some significant strides with that group in 2017. This program has crawled along for far too long struggling with injuries and a lack of depth on the offensive line.
