Hail Varsity did a good break down, and at times funny, analysis of the game against Wisky.  OSU is going to be interesting.  They are much more explosive on O and hung 62 on us last year....

A little bit about how our defense broke:

However, a closer look at how Wisconsin accumulated those yards reveals a stat that defensive coordinator Bob Diaco, whose defense is focused primarily on preventing the big plays in a bend-but-don't-break style, can't be happy about.

Of those 353 yards, 200 of them came on eight explosive runs, those carries that gained 10 or more yards. Nebraska allowed runs of 30, 10, 75, 10, 15, 21 and 24 yards to the Badgers, and it was those plays where the defense not only bent but shattered that made the difference in the game.

Gotta love when your safeties are 15 yards off the ball against a team with zero deep threat. Oh, and the fact that we stack our LB's to one side and they run the opposite way. Defensive genius! 

 
OSU uses that run-pass option where it makes it hard to read.  Can’t just focus on the pass and you can’t have guys loaded in the box.  I see a lot of short passes and runs setting up big plays unfortunately.

I think that might have something to do with the lack of general speed in our defensive backfield.

Agreed. 

This is what I've been saying since we entered the Big 10: How do we not take a humble look at what the other successful defenses in this conference do? Does this not seem obvious?

I looked up the stats of the Wisconsin vs Iowa head-to-head results going back to 2001. In the past 15 contests, Wisconsin has never scored more than 34 points against Iowa. Let that sink in for a bit. In 15 seasons, Wisconsin, who has blown us out and scored more than 34 points on us multiple times, never scored more than 34 points against Iowa.

How in the living f*** are we consistently not fielding a defense as good as Iowa's?!

Bob at times has looked good against the run in the first six games, but he needs to swallow his pride and bring his secondary closer to the line when we play Penn State and Iowa. The Ohio State game is a write-off.

McBride recruited speed and guys who could tackle......size was a bonus, but not a requisite.

I think moving Kalu to safety and Jackson to CB has hurt the team.....
