Breaking Up is hard to do - in praise of DiCaprio Bootle

Per Nate Clouse:

DiCaprio Bootle's pass breakup against OSU gave him 15 on the season.

That puts him in a four-way tie for 4th place all time for pass breakups in a season.

That's the first time in 13 years a player has had 15 pass breakups in a season.

Bootle is two PBU's away from DeJuan Groce's school record of 17 in one season.

Bootle plays inexperienced at times but he has shown an incredible amount of talent and grit this season. He is one of our star players on defense for sure.

The secondary as a whole played pretty well I though. A lot of the open guys in the second half in particular were due to no pass pressure. Haskins had minutes to survey the field. Impressed by Bootle today as well although one of those breakups was probably(definitely) PI

Corner is hard enough to play without all the rule changes to favor the offense.  Merely "turning your head" like a lot of fans beg for all the time is an easy way to get burnt.  He's playing very well!

Playing CB with limited pressure on a QB is incredibly hard.  I know he leads the B1G.  Does he lead the nation.  In reality, in other years, those would've been catches....He does a great job in what he has done.

You still need to find the ball, it's just a question of when and how. Fisher is very good at teaching how to locate the receiver and get turned around. Just a matter of time before some of these turn into interceptions.

I agree.  Corner play has gotten better as the year progresses, Jackson is making great plays now as well.

Would be nice now if the kid would take a hard look at his run support.  The last three games he’s been borderline nonexistent when a run play is coming at him

I know thread is about Bootle, but I gave up on Jackson altogether.  I'm interested to see what he will end up being next year.  He has made a ton of progress in the last month.  Bootle has been strong all year.
