Brent Qvale

"That's what made us like Qvale, because he did more than just play O-line," NU offensive line coach Barney Cotton said. "The best O-linemen played basketball, played defense, did something rather than just be O-linemen.
"You're going to be blocking guys who are way better athletes than you, so you'd like to have a better athlete (on the O-line)."

The 6-foot-7, 325-pounder turned heads during his first fall camp before shoulder surgery forced him to redshirt. Last season, he played in 13 games, and now he is in line to see significantly more action along with fellow sophomore Andrew Rodriguez, a left guard from Aurora.

Young Lineman coming up this year! Our youthmovement on the Oline is in full swing.

Saw Brent on campus once, he literally cased a shadow over me and my buddy. He is one gigantic human being.

search "OL+youth" during March of 2009 or March of 2010 and you'll find an identical article. We always have young linemen coming up. A-Rod/Yoshi were coming up last year. Moore/Qvale this year. Until they are coached to their potential we'll have a whole new wave of youthful OL coming in fighting for starting spots each year. Not sure this is a good thing - frankly I'd rather be hearing about how the junior/seniors are dominating our youth versus all the 'youth will contribute in a large way' articles. It just means somewhere along the line we either missed with our recruits, or did a poor job developing them.

...I'm confident (hopeful) the staff changes will fix this some. Only time will tell.

Exactly, how many years now have we heard that the o-line is gonna dominate? Time to stop talking and just get to work

Bingo. It's now to the point where I totally disregard the standard spring football articles:

"Competition is open at every spot . . . no starter is safe!"

"Depth is so much greater than it was last year."

"________ is excelling on the scout team and will be better than last year's starter."

Etc. Etc. Etc. It's all fluff. (No offense to the writers . . . you don't exactly have much else to write about.)
