Burkes' NU career over

Burkes' NU career over

LJS

Offensive lineman Jaivorio Burkes' playing career at Nebraska is over, according to Husker head coach Bo Pelini.

Burkes, a junior, sat out this season with an unspecified medical condition. He was sidelined in August of 2008 because of problems with high blood pressure but returned in time to play in all 13 games as a sophomore, including four starts. In 2007, he was among 11 true freshmen to see action.

It's unclear if Burkes will try to play elsewhere.

Pelini declined further comment. We'll try to reach Burkes.

Yep. Everyone saw this coming way back in the summer. Too bad for the guy. Hope he gets healthy. There's a lot more to life than football.

I'm sure that won't happen. Blake Lawrence still has his. I hope Jaivorio's condition isn't anything life threatening. Terrible to lose him.

I hope to hell they didn't take his scholarship away. If so, that would have been a bigger than life bush league move.
I think they can still pay for his school if he sticks around, but get it not to count against the 85 limit on a medical exemption like they did with Blake. If Javario goes somewhere else then all bets are off I would guess.

I'd have to look it up, but I believe this is correct.

Damn, that sucks. I was so high on this kid when he was recruited but health is definitely more important for this young man. I wish him well.

I would assume they will continue his scholarship if he stays enrolled at NU. Too bad to lose a guy like him, but I hope he can get healthy and get on with his life after football.

Here's to wishing Burkes much luck and success in the future, wherever it takes him. I hope his health gets better so he can lead a long and productive life.
