Kentaro Shimada, 33, a jobless man of no fixed address, is accused of fraud. Police are grilling him over the motives behind his crime.
Shimada stayed in a private room of a comic cafe in Nagaoka, where customers can read comic books while drinking cafe or tea, from Aug. 2 to Sept. 26, and escaped without paying 520,000 yen for his use of the room and the 140 drinks he ordered, local police said.
