California Husker
Starter
When Callahan first hired Cosgrove I had high hopes. I knew he had somewhat weak defenses while at Wisconsin but I held to the theory that the reason for his poor performance there was that he lacked the talent we get at NU. I mean really, look what he was walking into at NU: Adam Carriker, Jay Moore, Josh Bullocks, Daniel Bullocks, Barrett Ruud, etc, etc. Boy was I wrong. After two seasons of waiting for something to go right I realized that it was not going to happen.
Well, last year after yet another anemic performance by our defense (I believe after Texas A&M or Mizzu) I finally came to my senses. I came on to the Husker Board, a new member, eager to share my opinion and hopefully engage in some lively debate.
Instead I was treated like a pariah. I was lambasted for my opinion. I was constantly reminded that it was Shanle and Grixby’s fault. “Coz has no talent” and “Wait until he gets his players in place” were the cries. When reminded that he had 3 future NFL starters out of the four starting D-backs when he arrived at NU, the cry came out; “They didn’t buy into his scheme.”
Hell, just this morning, one of the more “experienced” posters on this message board questioned whether I was a true Husker fan, and suggested I had a criminal background, and called me “inbred” all stemming from my opinion that Cosgrove needs to be fired (I swear, he really said all of that). Ironically that same person is now calling for Coz to be fired. I wonder if he now has all of the same afflictions he accused me of this morning? But….back to the point.
The defensive stats for today’s game look like this: Ball State had 200 yards rushing (188 net), and 422 yards passing. That’s 610 net yards. Ball-Friggin-State! They hung 40 points on us and had to miss a field goal for us to preserve the victory! BALL-FRIGGIN-STATE!!!!
Cosgrove is horrible and needs to go ASAP. I realize that will be at the end of the season at the soonest. But it could have been immediately at the end of last season…and for that I am royally pissed right now.
So, I would like to welcome all of you who have finally joined me in my opinion about Cosgrove. You don’t have to apologize; your multiple threads in support of my opinion are apology enough. In the future however, you should listen to me from the onset. You all could have saved yourselves the disappointment of thinking our defense would ever be good with Cosgrove at the helm, only to have your hopes dashed on national television and PPV. Go Big Red! But I fear it will be a long season.
